My DD is an upcoming freshman in high school. I read a lot of threads about high school ball and travel ball and as everyone here knows, there are TONS of opinions on each. The more I read about how some student-athletes have terrible high school programs, it makes me incredibly thankful for...
That field size for a C team is certainly fine. Can't imagine too many HR's will be hit, but like canyonjoe said, if a few more kids hit a HR, there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe one of them get their first (maybe only) HR and have something to be excited about!
I have a hard time seeing how a roster that size can be of much benefit to anyone other than a coach that wants to hand pick what players attend certain tournaments. I've heard of large rosters where the coach will pick 12 or so players to attend the tournament and the others either stay home...
Seems to me that fence dimensions are somewhat all over the place and/or built to for the amount of land they have to put as many all fields as possible. DD played in a big tournament in Nashville (Hendersonville) a few weeks ago. The "big field" was 230 all the way around, the "small field"...
My DD plays 12U for a good sized organization with numerous teams from 10U to 18U. We have never practiced with other age groups. Is practicing with different ages groups or teams of same age a common thing? DD has been playing travel for a while and we've never done it. During the peak of...
In North Carolina, a player "must have not exceeded eight (8) consecutive semesters of attendance or have participated more than four (4) seasons in any sport since first entering 9th grade". Eligibility rule doesn't seem to be all that clear if it's possible for a middle school player to play...
Thanks for all the feedback. I think our team has narrowed down the decision to Demarini VooDoo Rebirth, Easton Walk-off IV and maybe the Louisville PWR Stick Pack. After reading all the comments, I think we're on solid ground with the Demarini and the Easton. I like the Easton and thought...
Looking to replace current backpack bat bag with a new one. Looking at a few different makes and models and wanted to get feedback and thoughts on the different bags out there. Looking at DeMarini voodoo rebirth but don't know much about the bag. Any suggestions on bags or bags to stay away from?
Our team will travel out of state approximately once a month. We're based in North Carolina and we plan on traveling to Atlanta a few times, Nashville a few times, Richmond, and Alabama. Like I said, it's once a month and the other weekends will be played in North and South Carolina as long as...
We certainly don't have a commitment problem as we always have enough girls. 13 is what we are going with for the spring, up from 11. I agree, no reason for my DD to play on a team with 14+ girls at this age.
We are going with 13 this spring. Normally we carried 11 but if injuries or other circumstances came up with any players we would run thin on tournament days. We are a highly competitive 12U team and will be traveling a bit more this year so that may/could play into the player numbers game...
I am sure this has been asked many times on this forum, but what is the "right" number of players for a given team? I know as age increases there are a lot of variables to take into account but what are "rules of thumb" you or your teams have used in the past? Are there actually rules of thumb??
Travis pretty much summed up all the larger organizations - I'd add in Carolina Cardinals to the mix too. He's also right about some of the smaller teams being good ball teams. DD plays for Team NC and we have to travel about an hour to practice. Guess it's where you plan on moving. If you...
A lot of great opinions on this thread and really comes down to what is best for DD and family (mom may be getting frustrated but sounds like daughter is getting better). Based on the age of the team there a few things to consider for TODAY:
1 - OP DD is getting a lot of mound time = getting...
As an assistant coach on a TB team, there is all kinds of things going on that I am having a hard time getting my head around - I can't imagine drinking during practice, games, having a cooler of beer in a dugout, etc. If the girls were "interviewed" separately and they all have the same story...
Sounds like making a move is the right decision. When DD was moving up to 12's we were with a team that was full of her friends but the overall team desire was to play at a level just north of rec ball. It was a tough decision to move because of the friendships that had been made but DD wasn't...
