Who do you have cover 3b in this situation?

Catcher should cover third, SS should cover 2nd because 2nd may have to field the ball at first if First crashed on the Bunt. We have our girls throw back door on the girl rounding 2nd and throw to third if she was going to 3. We have our 3b cover home as to keep our pitcher out of harms way...

great question, she is about 70/30 70 percent of the time she isn't, 30 percent of the time she is

DD landing leg is too soft

Ok, I've been having my dd do carolina walkthroughs and she still has a very aggressive knee bend on her plant leg. It really causes her to lean forward too much. Is there another drill that will help fix this?

    Heat or ice???

I attended the U of A vs ASU game in Tempe AZ and I had the pleasure to sit with Mike Candreas wife and the Head Massage Theripist for the team. She works on the pitchers. Being my dd is a pitcher I asked her some questions. We got to the point as to what to do after a long day of pitching and...

    Stumped

I would suggest one thing then let the rest chime in. I would suggest that she turn the ball to the opposite direction that she is looking. It will generate more wrist snap.

    My Daughter has 5 pitches

She has two types of Change ups, I mentioned that in my original post. She can also vary her speed of her fastballs. I would actually say she doesn't throw the same speed twice in a row and the difference is about 5-8 mph difference. Oh She is a righty, who is double jointed like no tomorrow...

    My Daughter has 5 pitches

To some this could be taken the wrong way, I understand what you mean by this quote though. I will be starting a new 10U team for my younger dd and having my older dd play for a different team. She needs the direction of a more expierenced coach, I agree.

    My Daughter has 5 pitches

I have her in 14u, She will be moving up to 16u soon. I like to have her throw a drop in a 3-0 and 2-0 situation. For the good hitters I have her throw the backhand change, they are looking for the fastball, so I throw them off. I also take a peak at what the third base coach is doing. Majority...

    2nd year 12u pitching have a look

Alot of how we see things comes from Experience, either because we currently pitch, or have pitched, or we have worked with softball pitchers from a long time. My youngest dd is starting to pitch now and I wish I knew back then what I know now. My oldest dd would have had a much easier time at...

    My Daughter has 5 pitches

Yes my dd has 5 pitches, it's not what your thinking. I'm not a daddy that says my dd can throw a fastball, change, drop, screw and rise or curve. My daughter throws a 4 seam and 2 seam fast ball. The spin and movement for both pitches really throw off the batters. She has 2 change ups one where...

What drills help with arm speed?

Hello all, I've been real busy lately and haven't had a chance to post anything, here in AZ we're blessed with great softball weather and have been working on alot of things softball. I was looking for some arm speed drills to have my dd do. Here timing is a little off. She is full plant and...

    Pitcher Needs Help

This was the Million Drills i was speaking of. The throwing shoulder imho should be below the glove shoulder on release. Jennie finch does this, Cat is more even with her shoulders. I plan on working with her arm path with a touch, touch, touch drill. It's a drill where the arm goes straight...

    Pitcher Needs Help

Hello all, I am the coach rdelawder is speaking of. One thing I've noticed after watching her for this past month, month and a half is that she has a aggressive take of, unfortunatly her take off is up and not toward catcher. There is some many things to work on, I've given her and her dad a few...

I've never heard of a left handed softball pitcher

To switch over from a righty to a lefty is fairly easy. The reason why I say it's easy is because your dominant eye is closer to the pitch and your reaction speed is increased. Now, granted there are people whos dominant eye is opposite their batting style. A righty could have a left eye be...

Should pitching instructors only be pitchers?

I must say, I've never pitched in a game. I used to pitch to the girls on the team but after they got older I just wasn't fast enough for them. Then on the new team we have a coach that pitches fast enough for the girls to get live pitching. Since subscribing to this site, and reading articles...

I've never heard of a left handed softball pitcher

Well the ball coming from a Left handed pitcher comes in to the catcher at an angle that is different than a right handed pitcher. If your a lefty batter then your looking at the hip realease closer than a righty batter does. They have to look accross the pitchers body to pick up the pitch...

    Postion of Shoulders on release

I have a girl on our team that when she releases her release shoulder goes up and her front shoulder goes down. She is a slapper of the glove pitcher and I had her start trying to hit her hip if she absolutely has to slap her leg. When she tries to slap her hip her shoulders are much more...

At what stage do we let something go, and what stage do we fix it

On the "Another Pitcher" thread there was a comment made that at her level letting her leap was ok. She is 9 years old. That comment made me think a little. At what stage do we as coaches not allow certain trends that lead to bigger issues go? At what stage in the development of our pitchers do...

    Another pitcher

Ok, Now I could be seing things because there was a dust storm here in AZ but it looks like she is leaping ever so slightly(could probably get away with it at that level) and then replanting on release. Please someone let me know if I'm smokin crack on this one. I've watched it at least 6 times...

    pitcher mechanics

One thing that is causing her location to be off IMO is her plant foot lands at almost 90degrees in most of the video, On one of them she toe touches at 90 and heal plants at around 45. In the second video she doesn't rotate to 45 at all and it caused her to fall to her right. When a pitcher...
