I chuckle every time I hear this brought up. I don't know that I have seen any elite pitcher, softball or baseball, that doesn't use a fastball. If you look at the statistics, over 60% of the pitches thrown in a game are fastballs. It's just insane to me to think that someone would go through...
Long Toss is the best IMO. There are certainly things you can do to strengthen the arm, however some girls are just born with a gift. I agree with ian above, be careful not to overwork.
I agree with djcarter, but in most HS settings, she can be successful by spotting a fastball, and changeup, but with average speed, she better be really good at the spotting.
15yr old DD has 3. Fastball, Drop, and changeup. As riseball said above, she doesn't throw the change, cause she doesn't have too, but she will need it soon enough. I couldn't imagine a scenario where anyone would need more than 3 pitches if they are thrown effectively. In addition, pitching...
I think a lot of people get caught up in making hitters look silly with their changeup. 10mph difference is going to result, at worst, in most hitters being out front, and hitting the ball weaker than normal.
My first year as a coach, I took everything personal. I learned very quickly how the world of travel softball works. Now my first word of advice for anyone during this time of the year, "don't take things personal, it's just softball." You've made your decision, make the best of it. Nothing...
I have seen post after post over the past couple weeks about how players, and coaches need to make their decisions quickly, so as to be fair to one another. How do you do your due diligence and make your decision quickly? I have no issue with people asking as many questions as they like, my...
You can ask all of the questions you want, and get the answers on paper if you like, and they are worth less than the paper they are printed on. Any coach can give you the answers you want to hear, and do something different come play time. Your options are the same either way. What do any of...
I have always looked at it this way. As a player, you wouldn't appreciate a coach telling you, "Well Suzie, I'm pretty sure I have a spot for you, but give me a couple of weeks, and I will let you know for sure." It's a nasty game that we all play during tryout season, and the sole reason I...
Worst time of the season for all of the reasons you stated. I have found that if you run, or find a good program, and by that I mean making girls feel loved, needed, and appreciated, most have no desire to leave.
Sluggers hit the nail on the head. My DD's were struggling with the local instruction before I learned about DFP. I got one of the Tincher certified Instructors names from DFP, and took both of them to him. He did wonders for my DD's, but not because of some sorcery. They just teach the...
I had this happen to a Worth 2Legit. I called and they told me that all they would do is glue it and send back. Said I could save the shipping by doing it myself.
Now, that was a Worth, but I am assuming the response would be similar.
