Short fields like that play with my DD. She has only hit one out on a short down the line field, if she would just use her swing she could pop fly balls over all day long, but she tries to hard and has little success.
Just an update, DD used the Mako through travel and HS ball since purchase, had to buy a new bat this year as the Mako developed a dead spot. She is still using it as a cage bat. This purchase certainly worked out!
When the girls get to middle school, the coaches will communicate everything through the girls. If you are lucky, you will have a team parent that is a good communicater and will be the go between with the coach. But the girls will be expected to be responsible for all things team.
What age group? I believe at around 14U, the players need to start being the ones getting the communication first. That being said, I always put the practices and game schedules on Sports Engine so everyone can see them.
I would suggest that the goal be play ball, have fun and be the best players they can be. If they want to play in college, then you can focus on the contacting and marketing in HS. My daughter didn't want to play in college until her last tournament. A college coach was there to see another...
DD, a sophmore, playing Varsity yesterday, hit her first Grand Slam. She hit a line drive 225 over a 10 foot fence. Not sure wether I am more proud of the acomplishment or the remarks from other parents, especially the opposing teams parents.
Tournament this weekend and DD was hitting very well on Saturday. Her third at bat she hit a hard line drive passed the third base coach, who gave her a look and asked what are you going to do? DD responded get a hit and proceeded to drive the next pitch to left center and out of the field! Was...
I set the screen up and pitch overhand from a seated position. While not being able to hit the velocity from a stretch, it is plenty fast enough and somewhat mimics the angle of a softball pitch. What ever you do, if you move closer make sure you are covered by the screen. Once they start really...
That is good news, adds to the list of good secondary schools in this area for education and softball. DD is leaning towards Chemical Engineering so............ if she maintains a 4.5 gpa and I hit the lottery we are golden!
DD was out of sports for 5 plus months due to a concussion. Concussion Specialist at AGH recommended using a mouth-guard in basketball and softball. The mouth-guard acts as a shock absorber in a hit to the jaw, doesn't allow the lower jaw to slam against the upper jaw lessening the risk of a...
Head Coaches daughter is one of the main pitchers on the team, probably a close second to one of the other girls. I think she just happens to be their best catching option at the moment.
DD guested at a scrimmage for a Travel Ball 14U team and attended a pitcher and catchers session with the team on a prior night. All the girls asked her what organization she played for now and no one believed her that she didn't play TB. The best was at the scrimmage talking to an assistant...
