So.....Peel or Roll-over....why is one better then the other?

Thanks Sluggers and Java! As a dad trying to help your information helped out quite a bit. Rick's earlier post makes sense, but how to actually do it was kind of vague. It seems odd to me that it sounds so simple. There has to be a little more to it, because why aren't drop ball pitchers...

So.....Peel or Roll-over....why is one better then the other?

Boardmember or others. Can anyone outline a basic progression for learning the drop? We've recently started working on it and my DD can throw balls that drop fairly consistent. Every once in awhile, the stars align and the ball really breaks sharp and is much different than before. We've...

    Winter Hitting

Thanks for all of the replies, I appreciate it very much. I do see the hands coming through with the hips. We did try to keep a focus on the pressure on the inside of her rear leg, but what I see is more of the same. When we tried to keep the rear leg more solid, she seemed very bound up and...

    Winter Hitting

Another video after discussing some of the other thoughts from before. Really wish I would have taken video at the end as we worked on removing the sway back, focused on pressure on the inside of rear leg and trying to keep head from moving too much. I thought it was better, will have to get...

    Winter Hitting

Trying to get the feel of pulling with lower back. I get what you are saying about using the back and not the hands. I am trying to figure out a way to convey that to her. If I tell her to pull back with her lower back, I am pretty sure she will have no idea what that means. My understanding is...

    Winter Hitting

Thanks for the reply, at one time I remember a cue being to hide your hands from the pitcher. Is that the same type of action that you are referring to while continuously pulling back? IE, pulling your hands back (as in towards 3rd base dugout)?

    Winter Hitting

Just finished soccer and volleyball and trying to get ready for spring softball. We just started swinging without instruction and here is where we are. No instruction was given except for trying to get a feel for the pressure in her feet with weight transfer. I'm not sure where the...

    1st Year 14U Swings

First off, thanks for the comments. I actually do lurk at the other site and have no problem with FFS making the gif and posting it there. I actually appreciate all feedback and hope to be able to improve upon what we have started. I also didn't see anything negative from the other posters...

    1st Year 14U Swings

We've finally wrapped up basketball and soccer and have finally found some time to take a few swings. Not really working on anything just swinging to knock off the rust. She's swinging a 31" 28 oz wood bat off the tee. Moved the ball up and down and in and out just to get back in the swing...

    rbi's

What age group? To me, it really depends on the batter. Each situation is dependent on batters strengths/weaknesses. Our #3, #4, and #5 hitters approach is much different than our #7, #8, or #9 approach. The only consistent theme would be to not change their routine/process. Know the...

    Latest Video of DD Pitching

I would have her do some flamingo drills. Here's a video that shows the drill. We also do it from a normal starting position from the pitching plate. I would have her start there. Also, if she straightens out her arm circle, it should balance things out a little more and hopefully keep...

    Latest Video of DD Pitching

Not a PC, so take it for what it's worth, when you slow it down and look at the video, there is definitely a leap. It's not very big, but it is there. When she pushes off, her back foot rotates towards second base and that is when she becomes airborne. If she were to keep her toe down, she...

    Video Update 12U

Finally got around to videoing a game. A little background, throws fastball and change-up. Throws pretty hard for our age group. Usually has very good control. We have been working on trying to get a little more leg drive and had been wiping the wall with the ball. At times, when all...

is there such a thing as trying to hard to get a hit ?????

Focus on the routine of hitting, not the results. Have her use a defined routine when taking an at bat and do that every time. As a coach, don't focus on hits, but rather quality at bats, the hits will come.

    Illegal Pitch Question

Posted this in the pitching forum, but thought it might get answered here. 12U Game, runner on third two outs. Our pitcher starts her motion and for some reason stops her delivery and starts over. Umps call IP, and calls the ball but doesn't reward the runner on third home. Pitcher throws the...

    Illegal Pitch Question

LAdad has it exactly right. I didn't want to bring it to their attention and did protest after the subsequent pitch when they awarded the runner on third home. What I am unsure of is can they go back and correct it after one pitch, two pitches, etc. The call was absolutely the right call, not...

    Illegal Pitch Question

12U Game, runner on third two outs. Our pitcher starts her motion and for some reason stops her delivery and starts over. Umps call IP, and calls the ball but doesn't reward the runner on third home. Pitcher throws the next pitch for a strike and the base ump stops the play after the next...
