Head Coach Suddenly Out at NC State?

The thing that blows my mind on this one is that with the pitching coach quitting right before the season started and the firing of both the head coach and her assistant coach husband midseason, they are left with a kid who has apparently no softball coaching experience and was running their...

    Scheduling for HS Teams

You've got lots of good advice on this thread from people who are much smarter than I am. I will only add one thing. I tried to play teams better than us in our scrimmages - I wanted to know where our weaknesses were and how good teams would take advantage of them. Then I wanted to open the...

    Outfield Error/Scorekeeping Question

That's a hit. If the fielder has to leave her feet to make the play, then it's always a hit. Here's my general rule - If I think to myself, "Wow, nice play," then it would have been a hit if the player hadn't made it. It's always subjective.

    That is awesome! Congrats!

    Book keeping question

Fielders choice. It sucks but the softball gods tend to even those things out over time.

College players using Xeno over Meta and LXT

DD has always preferred the Xeno over the LXT based exclusively on feel. Now that she is at a LS/Wilson school, she tried out the Meta but still chose a Xeno.

    NCAA D1 Redshirt Rules

No, they don't despite the fact that those are the kids who are most affected by the large roster sizes. Had to be a cutoff somewhere. 2020's don't get the 5th year either.

    NCAA D1 Redshirt Rules

Thank you! Seems totally unfair that football players are allowed to play 25% of their season and still redshirt while girls get one AB in a game and blow their entire year of eligibility.

    A couple DP/FLEX questions

If my DP was playing the field to start the game, I would report that in the pre-game lineup exchange. The way I used it quite frequently last season is that I would sub the DP in for the Flex in the pre-game meeting. This would allow me to re-enter my Flex as my pitcher later in the game...

    NCAA D1 Redshirt Rules

Can anyone fill me in on how non-medical redshirts work at the NCAA D1 level? Thanks.

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

My first priority would be adding the safety base and then enforcing the running lane. Even in sanctions with the safety base, I see kids running down the full length of the baseline in fair territory. Slappers are particularly egregious in this.

    Is softball for every person?

Whoever said honesty is always the best policy wasn't being honest. Don't know your background with the parents in question, but it seems a bit harsh to me even if it may be true. There's a multitude of better ways to convey that message, but in the end, they asked the question and got a...

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

Just my opinion here, but I see many of these collisions happen when the runner is coming down in fair territory. The Bailey Dowling injury was an example from last year. The girl who was hurt from UCLA (who was actually the runner) in St. Pete a couple of weeks ago was an example. Again...

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

You obviously didn't watch the whole tournament. There was at least one collision (in which the B/R was correctly called for interference) that may have ended that girls season. Does anyone have an update on that young lady from UCLA? While that tournament was going on in Clearwater, I saw 3...

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. Fully support women's baseball. But, this is actually a forum about fastpitch softball. I guess that fact might have escaped you. Similarities to be sure between the two but they are not the same and shouldn't be the same. That's not...

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

I think many of the collisions we see would be avoided if the rule was enforced as written, but I would be happy to see the rule changed to make running in fair territory illegal within the length of the runner's lane. I think this would make it easier for umpires to enforce, keep coaches from...

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

Well, by all means, let's do things exactly like baseball.* *Sarcasm

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

Well, I'd be happy if the rule was more uniformly enforced. But, yes, in a perfect world, I am advocating a rule change - run in the lane or you're out. Otherwise, what is the point of the lane?

    Safety Base/Running Lane in NCAA

I think it would impact a significant number of the collisions that are seen at 1B and that is my primary issue. I would take the subjectivity out of the equation. If you're not in the runners lane, you're out. End of story. Make it like the batters box in NCAA - see it, call it, out...
