I’m sure the variables going into this decision are different in various parts of the country. Here in California, travel ball is king, but the rec leagues and All star teams definitely have a place and can continue to foster player development for many years.
I’ve seen way too many girls...
Yes, most slappers are generally looking for a ball on the outside half of the plate...the problem for them is that is one of the most difficult balls to hit. So, it seems like you are giving them what they want, but you get a lot of swings and misses on that pitch. Personally, I like mixing...
Our league starting mandating masks for pitchers 4 or 5 years ago. We provided one to each team the first year, but most girls wanted to have their own so we don't supply a team mask any more.
I use Live Streaming, Online Video & Hosting Services | Ustream to broadcast the games live and it also saves them for 30 days. We have families watching games on big screen TVs.
I think you are both right. She needs to visit some schools to help see if the real world experience is in line with the criteria that she thinks are important on paper. I would say whenever you go anywhere for a tournament or other travel, make it a point to visit any schools that are...
I've noticed that my Pocket Radar tends to read a little faster (1-2 mph) for lower pitches. Has anyone else noticed this or have an explanation for it?
sbcowboy, I use Josh Greer's Lynk Spyder to attach to the fence. Here is the only video i have access to right now, all compiled from my Sony camcorder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZTD7QpFBZ4
I've been using a Sony camcorder for a while and very happy with it. No fisheye effect and very clear picture in good light. Make sure you get a model with an external battery so that you can get a larger battery to last for a few games.
So one thing I learned from my own ACL surgery is that right around 3 months after surgery is the danger zone...she will start to feel great physically and it will be hard to resist starting to be more active. The problem is that this is the weakest point for the ACL. Since the replacement ACL...
I've done the same and i think there are some small benefits as you are basically training with a slightly heavier ball. The main detriment would be that it can throw off the timing of her release, so i wouldn't recommend it right before a game.
My favorite stat variation recently was missing strikeouts for the batting team. I get the "confusion" behind fielder's choice, but strikeouts are about as straightforward as it comes and the other team omitted 4 of them when posting their stats.
For the app, I like the idea of being able to...
I agree. My 13 yr old complained that they talked too much on the first day, but it turned out that the talking was actually teaching and she actually learned some things. By the end of it, she totally bought in and has been working on her throwing motion ever since. Best money I've spent yet...
For the subject line, I generally recommend something like: XYZ Camp - Sally Softball 20xx Shortstop
That way they can tell right away what it is in reference to and at least your daughter's name gets in front of them.
Keep it short and sweet with a customized personal note, and try to have her do it asap after they see her play. They want to see if she is interested in them and if she sends a full blown bio and softball history, it usually looks like it is being sent to every coach in the country (maybe...
