With the first ASA qualifier this weekend in GA, a debate has broken out amongst softball parents and coaches about which tournament will provide better 'exposure' for our darling daughters - ASA Nationals or Premier? Any thoughts by people "in the know" would be appreciated!

ASA Gold Nationals and Premier Nationals are not competing head to head the same week so Coaches/Recruiters could attend both. The 18A & 16A's ASA could run into conflict with Premier schedule.

Last Year ASA Gold was in San Diego, CA the week before the Premier nationals in Irvive, CA.

ASA Gold are rotating Nationals from West Coast, to East Coast, to OKC on a 3 year rotation. At this time I think Premier Nationals remain in CA.

Last year there were a number of Schools/Coaches that went to ASA Gold and the following week to see Premier Nationals.

Much should depend on where your DD wants to go to school e.g. region and also the type of school D1, DII, DIII, NAIA, JUCO etc as to where the best visibility could be achieved in front of college coaches. Those schools with the bigger budgets will travel and recruit more outside of their region

Another option for visibility by College Coaches are the Showcases and Camps ... this was taken from another Board but suggests that there are already over 250 College Coaches signed up to attend this years Atlanta Legacy showcase:

Coaches and Parents

Please take a moment to read this post and view the links provided in reference to the NFCA Administered skills camp on Thursday, July 12, 2012 as part of the Atlanta Legacy Showcase.

It is important to note that the camp is open to ANY rising 9th grader and above. Team acceptance into the Atlanta Legacy showcase is not required for participation in the NFCA camp. Acceptance is determined by the NFCA and spots available are limited.

Why should my daughter sign up for the camp? Not only will college coaches be present at the camp (256 coaches are currently registered to attend the Atlanta Legacy), but BATS testing is available.

BATS testing is basically the SAT for measuring skills. The testing is universal. The testing is conducted the exact same way nationwide. In other words, your score results are compared to others nationwide, in their age group. This info is INVALUABLE for your daughters’ and to college coaches. If your daughter tests very high, including that information in your emails to college coaches gives her instant credibility.

If you choose to sign up for the camp, PLEASE consider paying the additional $30 for the full comprehensive BATS testing.

FYI, the Atlanta Legacy pays for ALL NFCA Staff expenses, hotels, food, car, etc…our choice. This is not a shameless plug for financial gain. This is a great opportunity for your daughters.

As of 4/25/2012 there are 203 players currently registered. 350 is the max, so do not wait until the last minute if you are interested.

Go to the ones that are closest.

Premier started because the teams in California got sick and tired of traveling across the country to play the same teams from California they always play. They figured they might as well stay local and have their own championship. I do like the way Premier is run over ASA, and I'm not really sure the world needs a "youth softball championship of the world" to function properly.

Maybe the start up of the Premier League will force ASA to schedule their tournaments in better locations. Given the choice between CA and SD (14U), all things being equal I would choose CA every single time! I am still wondering what type of kickbacks ASA is getting for scheduling their tournaments in East/West/North/South BUMBLE #$%&!

And while Premier and ASA are scheduled for different weeks, and a team could conceivably do both, it is prohibitively expensive for most teams with a major sponsor or parents with DEEP pockets!
