Does anyone have any experience either way? My DD plays on a local team who plays showcase tourneys, but I feel she won't get as many looks as she would if she was part of a big organization. Am I right about this, or is it possible to get noticed with a small local organization?

Lot to be said for big organization both good and bad.

I think your DD might be right.

They will watch team because they are watching 4 or 5 players instead of just 1.

Are you planning on spending big $$$$ in the hope to get your DD discovered or are you a planning to take to take an active role, work the process and get her recruited?

It is absolutely possible to get noticed with a small organization if you are active and aggressively diligent with recruiting. It also depends on WHO you want to be recruited by. Our 18U team (which is playing under our 'real' org name has all their girls placed in mid-level D2 and D3 programs and some NAIA. They have got more money for their players than most of the big orgs ever will - and they are good matches between players and programs in my opinion. Very successful and 'right level' for who they are. And they didn't spend a lot of money getting it done.

That said, there is absolutely no doubt that the team my daughter currently plays on gets longer looks by coaches because of the name on our jersey. It is the exact same team and players as last season - but instead of glancing or walking by, coaches will stay and watch just that little bit longer. The coaches will reach out just that little bit more and spend just more time talking to us about our players. We get better fields at showcases (not the best fields yet, but we see what other teams get and we are clearly being favored). Showcase organizers take our calls and emails more seriously. We also get more parnts calling and asking about open roster spots and tryouts - including the early shots at players moving into the area. It all adds up.

Now you still have to perform - it is no magic spell - a uniform doesn't make you a better player - you still have to have the talent, do all the emails and camps, have the grades, play the showcases and everything else - but that longer look is no doubt an edge over teams and players that are not getting it. Even at college camps, I notice all the time that wearing our practice shirt means a longer assessment and assignment to the 'better' group of talent when they split groups up.

Your $$$ at work. Spend wisely.

In my experience of having coached for a large name organization that has been around for a long time and a newer organization which isn't as well known on the national circuit, we got on the good fields with the known organization. The key is: THE GIRLS HAVE TO CONTACT THE COACHES TO LET THEM KNOW WHEN/WHERE THEY ARE PLAYING!

I have already begun the recruiter parent role for her, but was wondering if colleges would pass because they don't see her playing with National organization.

So you are concerned that even if she has exceptional skills a college may pass on her because she of the name on her jersey?

If they see her and she performs and has the talent to play for their college, absolutely not.

Big name orgs gives you an edge on looks (even in reading an email "I play for Big Org 16U" is going to get a closer look than "I play for No-one I have heard of 16U") and also (in general) better competition level, but no college coach is going to pass on a talent if they see it.

Another take on it is who are the coaches for that big name org team? If the coaches are big deals with huge connections, then that coach will have more pull in getting college coaches to come watch DD. Your dd could still be drafted to a big name org team, but are the coaches any good? Do they have connections? Bigger picture - what is coach's reputation to college coaches for prior commits? Are those players still as good as the coaches touted them to be? The good coaches will keep committed players top notch prior to going off to college because their own reps are at stake.
