Also it helps to act like a coach is always watching whether you are a player, parent or coach.

I think we should just invest in several different university shirts, clipboards, and hats - then just send someone out to LF to stand there all decked out in dream school gear and take notes. You know, keep em guessing.

I remember seeing something on a thread here somewhere awhile ago where there was an organization who surveys college coaches at a fairly large number of schools across divisions every year and some questions about recruiting are asked. When asked what gets that initial interest it was very interesting to see their answers and team name/organization was not at all an uncommon answer.

I'll see if I can find that again - there was a link that had surveys for multiple years - it was really interesting the questions that were asked and the responses.

I found the survey I mentioned earlier - it is an NCAA Softball Coaches Recruiting Survey - one of the questions on the one that I was remembering asked "You receive multiple requests to watch a specific player for the first time at an Exposure Tournament. What makes you decide to watch a player for the first time?" - the answer "Reputation of Organization and/or Coach for which they are playing" was a common answer...see http://www.powerforceonline.com/uploads/1/5/2/4/15244018/college_recruiting_survey_results.pdf I thought this was a really interesting survey.

The one I linked above is from 2013 and there are more from later years at NCAA Softball Recruiting Surveys - Weighted Training Balls for Hitting and Batting Tees for Baseball & Softball (edited to add: I just copied and pasted the url I don't know why the title says what it says but it is NOT a weighted training balls survey) and the password for all of them is "Survey" (case-sensitive) - as far as I can tell none of the others are in pdf format so you have to look at the results question by question. Click 'detailed report' for each question to see any comments the coaches made about that question, which I thought were very interesting to read.

Thank you. This will be shared with our team. Excellent information!

Ironman, I missed this comment earlier. Wanted to ask - how's the process going for your DD? Do you feel that the coaches are showing up when DD writes/calls? I think we're in a similar situation - playing on the good fields about half the time, replacing the divets and wondering where the fences are for the other half.

We have had a ton of Mid-level D1 to D3 coaches come this past summer. Yes, some that she has contacted have to see her, probably 5-7 out of the 25 or so on the list (that I'm aware of.) Only once has a "P5" come out. But, I've seen a P5 coache watching a team with a pitcher that we beat down earlier in the day, which I know Kendall sent emails/video to, did not come over and watch us. That team had Firecrackers on the front of their jersey. But, in the end, I really believe she will end up where she belongs.

Totally been there! We played Corona Angels, and the stands were full of coaches who probably didn't even know who we were. Although in this case, the Angels really were the bomb-diggity and we enjoyed watching them, too.

When our girls did their pre-game cheer, I could've sworn they said, "1-2-3, Try not to suck." 😂 Didn't win, but weren't completely embarrassed and several girls had some good moments. Sometimes that's all you can ask.

We've also won against some of those "other" big name orgs, and they had coaches there for them and not us.

My dd plays for a solid mid level 14 b team this is her first full year playing softball. She is an 02 . She plays ss and left . Her bat is up and down . What she lacks in experience
She usually makeships up in effort . With this said what is our best plan ?

Thanks Terry Howard

Is playing in college the goal? If last year was her first year playing as an '02 I would put skill development high on the priority list for right now.

It is very interesting to me that nearly 30% of college coaches surveyed actually "prefer" parent coaches over "paid professionals".

Some interesting quotes:

"It doesn't so much matter. However Softball has shifted tremendously to a strictly money making activity. A lot of professionals are just collecting a check and stealing money. At least a volunteer parent is in most cases doing for the good of the kids, not their bank account."

"I don't agree with Paid Professional Coaches in the Summerball realm. I believe they should be in it for the right reasons, not making all these kids spend $1,000s of dollars in hopes they will get a scholarship. That isn't realistic."

"Eliminates some of the favoritism issues that might exist. Having said that, there are many "professional" softball coaches who are clowns so this is not a blanket endorsement!!"

"Too much money for the professionals...and most have never played the game. Anymore they are in it for profit and sale parents false dreams...not everyone can play DI or DII. As a matter of fact, club ball is becoming so far reaching that everyone is a gold team and the competition is not good enough at times to judge talent."
