When a player gets offered athletic money, let's say she gets 40%, is that off the tuition cost or total cost (tuition & room)? What is typical process for offering athletic scholarship? Also, if you have websites that explain this please include.

When my DD#1 was recruited by the DII she attended as a freshman, the head coach came to our house and explained her offer in writing. It was 70% of everything.

I do not know of a website explaining the process... However, she used the term "stackable" in regard to academic scholarships.

The answer is yes. It can be a percentage off everything or it could be a percentages of various parts of a scholarship. Each school is different in their approach. The bottom line is how much are you out of pocket. The school should be able to provide an estimate for that amount. One of the very first steps in the recruiting process is for the player and parents to decide what is the pain threshold for what will not be covered by a scholarship. That will help narrow the list of potential schools.

You need to ask the coach exactly what the scholarship % is including. Also, does this % come AFTER all need based and academic money? That makes a huge difference.

Can you negotiate a higher % or is it normally what you get offered have to accept or reject? How long do you get to consider offer before it is void? Also, I was also told about a player the players on a team got roughly a base percentage and then got extra money year to year based on performance.

I would recommend clarifying with each coach exactly what the percentage includes. Most would be 40% of everything, but do not make that assumption. Coaches like to use percentages instead of dollar amounts because if tuition/room/books/meals/ect increase the percentage remains the same.

And also Reduce because of performance.

While a reduction is always a possibility, a lot of conferences now offer 4-year scholarships. AD's want players to be happy and graduate and sing the praises of their alma mater, so it would probably be easier for a coach to kick a player off the team or run her off vs. reducing her scholarship.
