Best advice we got was to always ask "when will you be finished recruiting for the class of 20xx?" Easy to ask and easy to answer - then if that date passes you know to keep moving.

Thanks, I like that idea. What about asking them flat-out about their interest - would you suggest that or not?

Coaches will never give you an answer unless you ask. And if you flat out ask, most coaches will be honest with where you stand. If your daughter is uncomfortable asking, then her TB coach should ask.

She sent an email and asked but did not get a response. I just emailed with her TB coach about it and TB coach will hopefully follow up with the school's coaches this week. It almost seems obvious that if we're not hearing anything then we can draw the conclusion that they're not interested, but it would be nice to actually hear it from them - if there's a slight chance and they want to see more of her then great we'll keep them on our list. If they say it's not happening we can cross them off!

I'm not making excuses for this particular coach, but keep in mind they get hundreds of emails a week. So it may take some time. And it is always difficult explaining to a kid what their interest level may be, especially if they only saw them at a camp and not playing live. Most recruiting classes will be about 4-5 kids. Coaches have to narrow that down from hundreds of kids, trying to find a good fit from all angles. It's the most difficult part of the process for coaches.....and some don't handle it as well as they could.

DI cannot contact you until your junior year. Unless they are at a camp,.

If she's really interested, why not call the coach and leave a voice mail. She can tell her/him that she is following up on an email she sent on [date & time), then explain who she is and that she attended their camp last weekend, and if they would like to talk, she will call back on [date & time]. If they want to talk to her, they will be there to answer the phone when she calls. At least that is what I understand.

DD did finally get a response from the coach - they really liked her, felt she could play any level (this was a mid-D1), but that they had just signed their last 2018. The coach also offered to contact another coach on DD's behalf which was extremely nice and for which we are very grateful!
