Tournament during NCAA 'dead' period - D1 can't be there, right?

My daughter's 18U team is signed up to play in a tournament next weekend. The Tournament website lists a bunch of 'invited schools' including many D1.

I am sitting here this morning trying to figure out the NCAA rules for when coaches can contact players etc. (daughter is finishing sophomore year) and realized there are 'dead' periods....found something that says for softball the dead period starts May 31st and ends around June 8 or 9.

If I'm interpreting everything I've read about dead periods correctly, that means that these D1 schools will NOT be able to attend this June 4-5 tournament to watch players.

Is my interpretation correct?

Good question. I see a couple of D1s on the list to attend a showcase my DD is playing in next weekend too. Do D2's have the same rules ?

My DD took hitting lessons (3 player group) from a D1 coach last year. Because DD's group were HS students, we were not allowed to have the lessons during the WCWS due to the recruiting blackout. I would imagine the same would be true for a showcase but I am sure that the more experienced board members will be able to clarify...

I am pretty sure they blackout recruiting every year for the WCWS. A lot of the coaches attend regardless if their team is participating. I would not recommend signing up for a showcase until mid June.

Yes, your interpretation is correct. From the NCAA website: "During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period."

In any event, all the D1 coaches will be Oklahoma City watching the CWS.

My dd's team will be playing in Oklahoma City that week and attending the CWS. Last year, there were able to get some pictures of some of her players with some coaches. Basically, the players went and sat in the stands near some of them or they asked for a picture from some of the participating coaches as they walked up.

What's the purpose of a dead period? It is to give the coaches a break from recruiting? Give Recruits time to regroup? I can't seem to find any information anywhere explaining the purpose of the dead period. I'm more curious than anything else. Thanks.
