I don't know Coach Lisle personally, but my DD's hitting instructor does and when it comes to hitting he really knows what he is talking about...

This article gives some real insights on how he recruits. And frankly how most of the coaches we have interacted with over the past few years recruit (or at least the ones where we have been successful in getting players recruited).

I thought recruiters found players based off their HS stats. JK ;)

Nice article, thanks for the link.

DD's former teammate just verballed over the weekend and the first thing her dad said was "YES! NO MORE CLINICS!"

Coach talked to dd's TB coach, wanted one of her teammates and, when we went down there a few weekends later, dd's offer was reduced. It broke her heart as she had done outstanding in front of him when he came to see her play "one last time." We had to jump back into the recruitment process with little time left. Everyone that was interested in dd had been told she had verballed as we tried to be honest with everyone. That is why a friend, who is a coach in the SEC, jumped in to help get the ball rolling again for her recruitment.

Did the coach give you a reason for the reduction? College rosters seem to be expanding as the sport gains in popularity, and it is not uncommon to see rosters of 20+ at major D1 programs. On Goldfastpitch.com there are a couple of schools who have 9 players verballed in one class, so I would imagine a lot of coaches are reducing their offers to make their scholarship dollars go further.

That's the trick with verbal. The offer can be reduced or removed at anytime and what will you do about it?

I know most have better ethics but you never know if that coach finds a better player or changes schools at a later date. 4 years is a long time. "As a D1 coach told DD last month-a lot can happen in 4 years. The player you are now may not be the player you are when its go time so making offers this early don't benefit either side and can change for any reason"

That coach had 2 freshman that were early recruits not make it through the first 2 weeks of the college year. They couldn't physically cut it during "hell week". Coach was looking for 2014 grads or transfers suddenly to fill those spots. That soured their outlook on early verbal ling. Apparently this is happening more than we hear about.

My point was that just like our society with debt/credit cards..we over-extend ourselves. Don't break the bank to get exposure. Having said that, if you asked me if it was better for someone to be seen by 300 coaches versus 3? The answer would be yes.
