I'll spare you the trouble of trying to figure out how the umpires ruled. They ruled that my dd had to hit again. They did not consult for what the park rule is which we found out was to play it live. Still, no one has ever hit that wire. This was a strange call, imo. I've never hard of a re do or a mulligan.
lol Sounds like the umpires were golfers accustomed to playing on a course with a similar local rule...

Well, karma, I guess.

Different people have different views. I know one SB coach who seems to have every rule book memorized, and is truly upset if an umpire makes a call against the rules. He is personally deeply wounded if an umpire doesn't seem to even care what the rule is. He even pulled a team off the field when an umpire got really nasty about it. (My DD #1 was on deck, so she wasn't happy.)

Other people say its just a game and don't sweat it.

I like the latter attitude, but that is SO hard to pull off when your DD's game is on the line.

Kudos to DD, Karma prevails!

Official Scorebook: HR (EU/DO), which is shorthand for Homerun following a Do Over due to Umpire Error.

Good reminder for the umpires in training to carefully go over local ground rules before the game to avoid embarrassing situations.

I was young but I remember when Kingman hit one into the ceiling of the Metrdome that got stuck. Would have come down in the infield and would have a for sure out. They ruled it a ground rule double. Lol Where is the justice?

I wish I would have seen that Cannonball. It was really nice to meet you. Unfortunately, my DD had to work that day and didn't get to stick around to watch the game I did. She just finished her HS career (1st team All Conference again). It was nice to have her finish strong, since a year ago she thought she was done playing ball. She's due to sign her NLI next month. She's very excited. We hope to take in a few local college games this spring, so maybe we'll get to see BB play then.

Interesting circumstance CB. About 20 years ago in college, we were playing down in GA. They had been experiencing trouble with geese flying on the field. One of ours hit a shot to deep RF that struck a goose. The call was "live" because it hit the object in fair territory, after arguments from the other side. Oddly enough, that hit scored 2 runs, which later decided the game.
