    batter/coach timeouts for conference

bmakj: From what others have commented and trying to "read-up" on the rules I don't think the instructions you are describing would fall under a conference. It sounds like your batters while not in the BB are in and around HP receiving verbal instruction that everyone can hear. My OP was...

    batter/coach timeouts for conference

Thanks, I'll make sure to clarify this at the plate meeting next time we face them.

    batter/coach timeouts for conference

Ajaywill, Sorry for not being clear on my post. Yes, the 3rd base coach conferred with each batter once they had 2 strikes against them. This was the batter walking about 1/3 to 1/2 the way to the coaches box on 3rd base and taking about 10-20 seconds to "talk". I believe it is intended to...

    batter/coach timeouts for conference

Just checking to see if there are any rules about the number of timeouts a coach and batter(s) can take in an inning? We have played a team in 14U that takes a timeout conference with each batter. They use it as a tactic to break the timing of the game and it has become excessive even to the...

    out of batters box

quincy, thanks for the response. I'm not sure who the UIC was or if one was even present. They were short umpires and borrowed two from 10U. The tourney was an interlock between 3 cities and none of the league or interlock officials even bothered to show up. It was disappointing but as a...

    out of batters box

This weekend we played a 14U rec tournament. The opposing team batters had their front foot planted on the front chalk line of the box. When they took their stride their front foot would land about 6 to 8 inches outside the front of the batter's box. The umpire ruled that the batter would...

Strangest thing an Umpire has said to you?

replacement umpire from a lower league (we were at 12U level) tells me I can't call pitches that only the catcher can call pitches. I asked for to show me the ASA rule . . . "it's in there" he said to me then followed up with "go look it up"

    Illegal Pitch??

Thanks for your insights, it appeared that from time to time the ball touched the glove. Just depended on how precise the motion remained. My view was not the best and going behind "blue" to get a front on view might not have helped the mood of the crowd.

    Illegal Pitch??

During the first inning they faced her (she came in as a relief pitcher) our hitters struggled with this wind-up. We had 5 runned the previous pitcher. We scored 0 runs in the her first inning and 2 the following inning and 4 the next inning. They won by one run. We made some adjustments but...

    Illegal Pitch??

Here are still frames from the video. 1 - hands come together no always touching and not "in the glove". 2 - pumps to beyond her hip. 3 - brings hands back together appears to be in the glove. 4 - pumps again beyond the hip. 5 - second forward motion. 6 - delivers pitch. I highlighted the...

    Illegal Pitch??

This weekend we played a doubleheader against the same team. I hoped to upload a video but this forum doesn't allow video file format. In the first game their pitcher came out with what I called a "double-pump" wind-up. She would bring her hands up in front of her face with the ball and glove...

    Pitcher touching her face?

I have to agree with chinamigarden and crabby_Bob. I have seen softballs with different covers (i.e. leather vs. vinyl) fly very differently. We used to run a manual pitching machine (Louisville - Blue Flame) in 10U and I would get close to 1 foot of drop at the plate from 35 feet just by...

    Calling pitches

I do clue the catcher in on location, just not the speed or delivery (i.e. curve ball), we also have 2 very good catchers (a luxury). where we are in her softball life, we are still trying to keep it in or near the strike zone. She pitched two innings in this game with this umpire and she gave...

    Calling pitches

coachbob - sometimes it is just to take a breath or remember her "hip" work so her mechanics stay true.
