We played 8 games in Lubbock, Tx this last weekend. 5 on Friday alone in 101 degrees (heat index was 105 or so). Surprisingly, the girls handled it pretty well.
Last spring during my DD's 2nd year at 12u over a 36 game stretch, she had 39 attempts and was caught once. First year of 14u this spring she's had 22 attempts and been caught once. These were USA and USSSA A/B and Open Tournaments. On the other side we're blessed with two great catchers...
Our girls NEVER get in trouble for striking out (swinging) but backwards K's are a big NO NO.... 14u is a tough age to start playing ball.... especially if they can't throw and catch.
My 14u DD has an awesome group of teammates... and by extension awesome parents. We ALL go out to eat after games, Hang at practices, play corn hole (at practices and in between games) cook out, lake days, and weekend sleepovers with teammates. They all get along amazingly well as do the...
Ok the whole A vs. B vs. C thing is immaterial and I was just basing it off what I was told about the team, no big deal. However with regard to the ball, even if what you're saying is true (that it was caused from a "foul ball"), then it was the hardest hit foul ball in the history of the...
I've seen knuckle headed parents absolutely destroy great teams, and by extension, drain their kids of any desire to play. It actually happened here recently with a girl that is a GREAT pitcher and the kid is an absolute sweetheart. They're now on I think their 4th or 5th team in a year and a...
We were under the impression that is was all about spinning the ball but I have no clue whether or not it works. All I know is we try to teach our girls to play the right way and something like that runs counter to everything that we stand for and try to instill in our players. I don't want...
I hear what you are saying... Since there was nothing that could be done after the fact, I was reluctant to name names. But since you brought it up, It was Oklahoma Xplosion 07 out of Bethel Oklahoma. If you ever run into them, I'd keep a sharp eye!
So my DD played a USSSA tournament in OKC this last weekend. We were playing in a 14u "B" tournament that had a couple of 13O teams (basically they're 14u A teams that are playing down in 14B but that's a whole different story...
Anyway so we're playing a very good team in Gold Bracket play and...
We tried to use the live streaming that's built into the app this last weekend but it was a disaster. Stream kept spontaneously stopping for no apparent reason. We ended up just doing Facebook Live and it worked perfectly so I don't think it was connection/signal related. Not sure what was...
I know this has been discussed ad nauseam but what is the consensus on timing home to first (primarily for a slapper). First step, from contact or first step after contact? I know how much a difference these can make when timing our DD's. I'm very interested in what you all think.
thanks in...
My DD is 13 and playing first year 14u travel ball. She's a natural righty but converted to the left side and slapping full time right at a year ago... She averages 2.7 down the line from contact to first and can hit for a little power too. There's nothing i enjoy more than watching defenses...
Not trying to be negative but 14u beginners? I hope this is a rec team (and even still) because they are in for a very RUDE awakening. 14u is NOT for the faint of heart. The girls throw hard, run hard, and hit REALLY hard. We've seen kids show up to our open practices and tryouts thinking they...
