    Typical price for lessons?

We paid $45 for 1 hour pitching and $45 for 45 minutes hitting. In my experience once I started paying someone else to coach it downgraded my DD's opinion of my knowledge, even when I said the exact same thing! Between the lessons, team dues, gas, tolls, and equipment I got a pay raise when...

Question about the new recruiting rules

I remember the recruiting days and I don't envy you. Hopefully, your travel coach knows what she/he is doing and is vested in helping. Looking back, I believe ours was more interested in the $$ than the kids. DD went to a lot of camps and had a lot of "I'm very impressed with you. Send me...

    new College Freshmen DD check-in

DD at mid D1. First couple of weeks were an adjustment. Nothing bad, just DD overthinking and over studying. (Gets that from DW, certainly not me). Now finding her groove on the field, in the classroom, and with the other players. Starting to get her sass back, but in a good way. Tough...

Akron refuses to allow student-athlete out of Letter of Intent

DD has a good friend that is in the same predicament. She signed NLI to one school and this past summer changed her mind. The schools are not in the same conference or close geographically. She requested through the school and then the NCAA for relief and neither was granted. She is a good...

Another Sobering Article about Youth Sports

Mom and I didn't do it for the scholarship, but DD did. She decided at 8 that she wanted to play college ball and pursued that dream to it's realization this fall. She received a very good scholarship to a mid-major, but I probably still won't break even with all the $$ we've spent on...

Clues That The Scorebook Is Cooked

For HS, I think the scoring of PB and WP are the best cooked book indicators for pitchers and catchers. DD is a catcher turned pitcher. When she was a catcher she was a deeply, devout follower of the Jack The Ripper school of catching (she never blocked, just stabbed everything). So, in my...

    A2000 ??

My DD is P and 3B and on her second A2000. She loves them and plans to use same in college. I agree, they are expensive, but very durable. We were fortunate to be in a sponsored organization.

    Over use of 1 pitcher

^^^^ This. Last three years DD has been a solo act in HS ball regular season and playoffs. It caught up with her early last summer. Fortunately, no surgery was needed, but just now getting back to where she was in the circle. I recommend that if your DD is in this situation work with her...

Input on hiring a scouting/recruiting organization like NSR???

We didn't use one of these, but I've watched several friends go down this road. They seemed to end up doing just as much work and spending just as much time and money on emails, phone calls, showcases, and camps that we did plus the fees. During our journey I talked to several coaches, P-5...

    Bucket dad at a facility.

First pitching lesson, 8 years ago. I've sat side-saddle since!

    DD1 not getting courtesy runner

DD is a pitcher and isn't a fast runner, but smart on the bases. Hates to have a courtesy runner in high school. Especially those fast girls with a low base running IQ. Lots of unnecessary outs! TB is whole different animal.

How Important is High School Softball

This cracked me up. I have mixed emotions about HS ball, but you hit the nail on the head. It is a train wreck!!! One of the assistant coaches stopped by my classroom and asked what I thought of a recent game. I noted that we had a lot of rainbow throws and booted and dropped fly balls...

    Softball bats

DD used 2-3 year old bats throughout her softball life. We found no real difference in a current year bat and one that is a couple of years old. (except price and paint job) Shop around and there are some good bargains. CLOSEOUTBATS SALE: Easton Softball Bats & Baseball Bats; DeMarini...

Terrible Umpires, IMO, need to work the concessions.

Holy Cow! I think you must umpire a lot of our high school games. This is what we face on a weekly basis, one team has a pitcher that is decent, the other has a girl who can't find the plate. So, the solution is two different strike zones????? Perhaps that is why we had an opposing coach...

What would you have done different?

Thanks to all of you sharing your experience and ideas to help the rest of us. I think you guys have hit the proverbial nail on the head. Why throw a changeup in HS when that is in the wheelhouse of most HS players. DD is a junior and has started all of her sophomore and junior HS games...
