Sorry, I haven't been on in a while. It should not promote pushing. If you set the tee up so that it's close to your body, your arms travel a very short distance to the ball. When you're done with the drill, you can set up regularly; then lead with your front elbow and take a full swing.
Oh, I definitely agree if that were the point of the drill. But, the hitter needs to lead with her lead elbow, as always. Using the knob is to exaggerate the idea that her hands travel inside of the ball while she's throwing them towards the pitcher when she swings.
