    KJ working on riseball

According to a very respected P coach at a perennial top 20 program that did a mini-clinic fro me back in April, a study of 10 high level P's was done and it was discovered that the optimal release angle for the hips was approximately 52 degrees. This coach had some other very interesting angles...

    Bata or Jugs

I have the BATAII baseball/softball machine and I would pop for the extra bucks and get it over the JUGS. Have extensive experience with both, the BATA is more consistent in it's speed, it's a 2 wheel machine with solid rubber wheels, not tires, you can adjust it to throw drops, rises, curves...

Nancy Evans - The Softball Pitching Factory Videos

The video on teaching the riseball (I think it's called The Ruthless Riseball) has some good information in regards to a good spin progresson series of drills that I have used in the past with good results.

    Slapping Help

I would suggest putting her in a position in which she has already crossed over, ball on a tee slightly in front of her front hip. Make sure her hands are back and her shoulders are still more to the plate than towards the pitcher. Then work on keeping her hands inside the ball, driving...

    Revfire

Have it, and I would agree that it has it's most value when measuring spin speed, not as accurate as a radar gun for speed. Mine seems to register higher than a radar gun, most say that it registers a little low. Great aid for measuring spin progression for movement pitches.

    Revfire question

mrslug01 - Had a kid get gunned down at Club K 18 months ago by their staff and every pitch was between 59 and 62. Their statement, not mine, "this is the best radar gun on the market so whatever speed you get is your true speed". Same kid gets 54-56 on my gun, and she is throwing at least as...

    Revfire question

MVLA - had a buddy of mine get his car set to 40 and 50 MPH on crusie control and gunned him as he drove past. Within .3 to .5 MPH every time. Then set my pitching machine at the settings for which the manufacturer says is 60 MPH, and again within .2 to .4 MPH. So I am tending to believe the...

The drill is appropriately named "The Circle of Death".

    Swimming Cure ?

You might also try standing out in front of her and slightly to HER left (if she is a rightie) and put a boxer's or MMA target glove on your outstretched hand. Then have her throw dry pitches (no ball) and slap the target glove with her glove hand. I have used this drill to effectively fix the...

    Revfire question

Interesting. I have been experiencing a dramatic DROP in speed with the radar gun reading as opposed to the rev-fire. And I mean anywhere from 3-6 MPH. I have the revfire set up from 40' most of the time, and I'll get a reading that is easily 3-5 MPH (and sometimes greater) higher than the...

    John Tschida hitting video

"I like the trash can idea with the girls in a circle. The girls would have fun with that because the balls would be flying all over the place and they like chaos." Yep. And they'll have a lot of fun trying to hit all of the coaches pitching the wiffles!

    John Tschida hitting video

"Does he use the swiss cheese type wiffle balls with the holes all over? Does he use baseball or softball size? Underhand or overhand? About how far away does he throw?" In most of the drills he is using baseball sized and he pitches from a variety of distance. He's got a nice drill where he...

    Drill Suggestions for Lower Body

Have her raise her stride leg up to where her stride leg thigh is parallel to the ground while having her drive foot either on the rubber or on the ground (pitching rubber not necessary, this drill is best done indoors anyway). Have her hop forward very aggressviely twice and on the third one...

    Pitching around the hip

I may be way off base here, but in looking at both pitchers from the rear, Scarboro has a slight re-plant and gets her drive foot turned to the point where it's more heel to home and toe to 2nd than the opposite. Once she completes the re-plant, she has a sweeping drag/drive foot that leaves the...

    RVP or Dartfish

I have the Dartfish software and it is excellent. Pretty easy to use, and there are some hitting and pitching companion DVD's with excellent reference models. USA Softball put one out for hitting and pitching, althought the pitching is light, one video of Finch. Good slapping and hitting models...
