I agree with the points that Rocketech1 makes. Do you get on a football coach for running the football and taking the full :45 seconds after each play while clinging to a 4 point?

The football coach can't call timeout and just let the clock run down for two minutes like a softball coach can. The football team has to run a play or the clock stops and they get penalized. A softball team can huddle on the mound for 5 minutes while the clock runs and there is nothing to stop them. They are completely different.

No they can't. You might want to read up on the rules.

One thing I use to just shake my head at.............

Nobody really cares that the other team has swapped 2 pitchers, called 2 time outs, had 6 batter conferences throughout the game, costing 5-6 minutes. But all hell breaks loose if YOU do one of those in the last minute of the game.

It might look bad, but in reality, you've done nothing that the other coach hasn't done, just doing it at a different time.

When you get into a deliberate stalling mode you are doing a disservice to the development of your players.
1). Eventually they will be in a situation where time does not matter and you have to battle to the very end for a victory. The girls need to experience this at a young age. Trust me that this will help you later on in your career.
2). I've also seen coaches stall in showcase games which is mind boggling. College coaches want to see how you react under pressure. Winning is not as important as how you battle.
Teaching a lesson should be more important than winning.

In the end there are some that will win at any cost and others that choose to take the high road. Some are in the middle. If there are 30 seconds will I tell my batter to take a pitch or 2? Yes Will I call for a meaningless conference? No. For me I won't have players tie their shoes, I won't put a sub in. I don't like it when coaches go to extremes to stall. What does bother me is that when someone calls them on it they act like they you don't know what you are talking about. Don't act like you are ready for the SEC because you stalled the last 5 minutes to win a pool game at 10U.

I only every said one thing to a coach after he stalled. That was a coach that after changing pitchers with 5 minutes left changed catchers after the warmups (using the same gear). We came back to tie him and he went nuts asking the umps to play one more inning. I asked him before his game the next day how the silver bracket was going that day.
