The problem with using different grips on the change is that often that's all they are - different grips. To create a definite reduction in speed without slowing down the arm you have to defeat the things that create speed to begin with, particularly whip. That's what the Pauly change does, as well as the backhand change (without the flip). You lead the ball through the release zone rather than having it fire through at the end, you prevent the wrist from snapping, you put the arm in a weaker position by bending the elbow slightly so the release flattens out, and so forth.

What he said^^^^^ Just posted the youtube link. Study the release, it is an amazing pitch and also the first CU that we have been able to use that you really need to give it all your energy to get it there. In other words, it will go slow while the body is going normal speed.

My DD has a great horse shoe change but it is really more of an off speed. She just can't slow it down enough unless she slows her body and arm down. So we simply throw it as an off speed pitch which works well. However, the Pauly change provides the slower speed you want in a change so we are hard at work on mastering it.
