And I'm not very happy about it. He blew three calls at third and the first blown call was in favor of me. All three plays were at 3rd and involved tags.

The first girl was mine and she was out by a mile. I'm talking not even close. Called her safe. The other team appealed to the HPU and my pitcher overheard him say that if he thought she was safe, he wasn't going to change his call.

Second play was on a ground ball to SS and runner on 2nd. Ball was hit behind runner and SS made a great play and made the throw to 3rd. Glove was between base and runners foot. Safe. I tried to appeal to HPU and field umpire said we weren't going to do this every play.

Third play was a steal. Catcher bobbled pitch and runner at 2nd took off. Same inning as second play. Girl slides to the outfield side of the bag and the tag actually swept her right hand off the base as left had was along her side. Safe. I lost it.

AC tried to appeal to HPU and field umpire got really angry. He told us we weren't going to challenge every call he made. I told him to make the right calls and we wouldn't have to. Tried to explain that he didn't have the best vantage point seeing as how he was behind the SS how could he even see the base or anything else that was going on. He yelled back "where am I supposed to stand" and I need to read the rules of baseball and he was positioned where the 3rd base umpire would be positioned. Well that isn't true and he wasn't the 3rd base ump, he was the field ump.

The other teams 3rd base coach calmed me down. He was just as frustrated. It's hard to watch the girls make plays to only have them blown by the umpire. My team or the other. Believe me when I say I am against replays and any of that stuff simply because I like the human element of the game. Weird? Probably but to me, blown calls are a part of the game. But this was just too much for me to handle.

I didn't get ejected, not that I thought I should because other than questioning him I didn't really do anything wrong. I never really "yelled" per se, may have had a bit of an edge on my tone and my voice was raised but I can control myself. It isn't like I was cussing and throwing buckets and such as I have seen done.

Regardless, I apologized to him Sunday morning....even though I know he was wrong. I also did it in front of my players and parents. Not sure that matters, but I thought it was the right thing to do.

Since it was you—and not me—the "right thing to do" was to not have done it in the first place. Now, if it was me ... I would probably do just like you did.

I disagree. Sometimes people need to know when they are messing up. He did change his positioning in the games that followed. I know what you are saying but it was a classy argument :) I've seen buckets get thrown, AC's having to hold HC's back or vice-versa and heard language that embarrassed me and I work around sailors!

I recall once back in my boisterous days getting into a verbal altercation with an ump over the time left in the game. I was in the bleachers. Long story short, he threatened to kick my butt, telling me to "stay right there." A couple friends were giving me advice where to hit him. I told them that I was going to let him hit me first; that that would pay off my car. But if I could get up I would take their advice.

The field ump subdued him before he could get to me. Thank goodness! He was probably twice my size.

CB, I'm certainly no rules expert, but your new inning had already started when the third out was made with more than 7 minutes remaining if I'm not mistaken. So, you should have gotten one chance to do something, or were you hoping for a quick three outs to start another? Coaches should handle the umps and share their discontent. Most will not even acknowledge someone outside the fences regardless if they are right or not. May have been time to knod over the TD.

I think we ran into an USFA rule set that had a new inning starting when batter in the box and pitch thrown - might be wrong. This was the same rule set that allowed the clock to stop if either team called a time-out with less than five (maybe it was 10) minutes remaining.

I don't know if it was respectful or not but I will say it isn't something that I'm embarrassed about. We disagreed, we argued, we played the rest of the game without incident.

. Since I do know him, I asked him to move so that the pitcher could throw her warmups and get the inning started.

Just curious.....if time was so close to expiring, why not skip the warm-ups? My dd's team will do this to hopefully get a quick three outs so they could start a new inning before time runs out. Doesn't always work, but they give it a try.

I Yelled at Blue

(To the tune of "I kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry)

This was never the way I planned, not my intention.
I got so brave, behind the backstop, lost my discretion
It's not what I'm used to, just wanna try it out.
I'm angry with you, 'cause my kid just struck out.

[Chorus:]

I yelled at blue and I liked it,
His calls were so pathetic.
I yelled at blue just to try it,
I hope the coach don't mind it.
It felt so wrong,
it felt so right.
Don't mean I'm a Crazy Daddy..
I yelled at blue and I liked it (I liked it).

No, I don't even know your name, it doesn't matter.
You just have no clue about this game, you can't even see the batter.
It's not what good Dads do, not how they should behave.
But, I can't believe they let you have a razor to shave

[repeat chorus]

You umps are so fanatical,
Shin guards, spare tire, and oh so radical.
Hard to resist, so irreplaceable.
So awful, no way you can deny it.
And, one more thing, you're a Grade A idiot.

[repeat chorus]

Had an incident a couple of weeks ago on a force out at 2nd. We were on defense ball hit to SS, force play at 2B. It was close, BU called Safe. I called time went out and asked you're telling me that the runner beat the throw. BU says yes Coach your SS just tossed the ball and she beat the throw. I tell him, "Well I gotta make it look good in front of the girls". He responds, "Want me to throw you out of the game?" No, we don't have to go that far, can I just kick some dirt on your shoes?

He had to turn around and face the OF because he was getting ready to laugh.... That is how to handle Umpires :)
