DD has to turn in her mile time each week to her AC as well has talk about her weekly workouts. It got me thinking because they are supposed to reach a certain time. Our friend said that her college coach told her that if they don't make the time, they'd be cut. Maybe that's true but we had a girl go D1 that was over 250 lbs according to her mother and there's no way she could do a mile in what's required. Is this a bluff just to get the girls to get into shape and or maybe a way to get rid of someone if they want too?
BTW...DD's friend failed the first time but an older player told her about an application to set the pace so you don't burn out too early. DD is using it and it has really helped her. Unfortunately it doesn't have anything for the puking after LOL.
(required...sorry for the thread title)

My DD has been to several D1 camps where the coaches have talked about their conditioning test that must be passed prior the spring season in order to receive their uniforms and be a member of the team. Not sure if all schools have them but the schools in non power 5 conferences do so I would assume the Florida and Michigan's of the world do also.

How do some of these XL girls do it then? DD needs to get under 8:35 for the mile and her friend at a different college needed 8:50. Her friend just barely passed (she was 5'7" 175lbs at the time).

Edit: Later I was corrected that it was 8:30 for mile.

I'm in my 40's and don't work out. I could briskly walk that pace backwards. They aren't asking for a sub 5:00 mile. If they start now and walk a mile or two a day and pick the pace up a little each day/week then it should be no problem.

Some just don't make it and they go away. A girl from my DD's high school signed and went D1. In Early march she was at a practice. My DD recognized her from the camp at her college and asked her how things were going. Player said great we are on spring break and have to go back in a few weeks. I pulled up the college schedule and roster and her name was no where to be found and the school was streaming live at their tournament game.

High school girls need to read this thread as it's possible that many will have stories and advice. Mine is begin conditioning, lifting and running now so that you don't have to worry about it later.

Wow, you walk fast! This is what I saw on LiveStrong...
“High” fitness women ran the mile in nine minutes or less; “moderate” fitness women ran it in 10 minutes and 30 seconds or less and “low” fitness women needed 12 minutes or more to complete the mile (from Southwestern Medical School 2011).

I would pay to see that!

If you are a 17/18 year old headed to play college ball you should have no trouble running a mile in 8 minutes. Put down the phone and get off the couch! :)

If you just run every day, start slow no need to over do it (one maybe two off days a week) for a couple months and don't eat a bunch of garbage (you can splurge once a week) an 18 yr old should be able to do this fairly easily I know when I was working out every day at ROTC camp I was running 9:30's for 1.5 miles and was very average; there were a few girls that would beat me. According to the president challenge standards it is about the top 25% of girls in the country.

As far as the bigger girls they are not recruited for fitness they get a different test...pitching machine and bat in hand and if you can average a HR every couple swings or so you are good to go...and yeah pitchers don't count either.

Not here.

That's pretty fast....
An 8 minute mile was good and would normally put you in the top 4th of the 10K race results in the races I ran in. A 9 minute mile would put you in the top 3rd...and a 10 minute mile would put you at about the middle of the pack in terms of RUNNERS
I think my DD needs to be under 10:00 min. I'll have to ask her(texted DD 10:00 is the time for her mile). I know she has been training.
I walk 3 miles every day. It takes me about 14 min. per mile. I probably could do 13 min if I really pushed it but, I'm over 50.
