That's pretty fast....

I think my DD needs to be under 10:00 min. I'll have to ask her(texted DD 10:00 is the time for her mile). I know she has been training.
I walk 3 miles every day. It takes me about 14 min. per mile. I probably could do 13 min if I really pushed it but, I'm over 50.

I try to also, just to earn my beer:)

DD's working hard to get it and has lost over 10 lbs- I'm confident she'll pass but has a way to go. I tend to agree though that they have to be lenient towards the big girls with big bats.

I would pay to see that!

Let me know when you are next in the Midwest, and we can have a team fundraiser. You all can pay to watch me do what every human being should be able to do. Unfortunately Americans tend to be in poor shape and lazy.

Wow, you walk fast! This is what I saw on LiveStrong...
“High” fitness women ran the mile in nine minutes or less; “moderate” fitness women ran it in 10 minutes and 30 seconds or less and “low” fitness women needed 12 minutes or more to complete the mile (from Southwestern Medical School 2011).

I find very little if anything on the Livestrong website to be of any value. Just so we can be clear, you are quoting a study of the average times for women in the fattest, laziest country in the world, correct? See if you can find some information for average times for women across the world. I apologize if I sound harsh, but they aren't asking these girls to run cross country times. Just a time that shows that they didn't sit on the couch eating Bon Bons all summer.

Are they putting together another Ricky Pauly DFP pitching clinic?

DD has to turn in her mile time each week to her AC as well has talk about her weekly workouts. It got me thinking because they are supposed to reach a certain time. Our friend said that her college coach told her that if they don't make the time, they'd be cut. Maybe that's true but we had a girl go D1 that was over 250 lbs according to her mother and there's no way she could do a mile in what's required. Is this a bluff just to get the girls to get into shape and or maybe a way to get rid of someone if they want too?
BTW...DD's friend failed the first time but an older player told her about an application to set the pace so you don't burn out too early. DD is using it and it has really helped her. Unfortunately it doesn't have anything for the puking after LOL.

Is your DD an incoming college freshman and turning in times to her future coach?

DD's school had "mandatory" times for gassers. The times were different for slappers, pitchers etc.

Yes that is correct... I don't know if they sent different times to different people, but it looked like a pretty generic letter.

When I was about 20 in the Army Reserves I had to run two miles in under 20 minutes. I was drunk 5 or 6 nights a week, smoking cigarettes and pot at the time and went for my PT test and did it in 23+ minutes so I started working out. I would get up with a hangover and run walk 2 miles, or go after work and do that for a total of about 3 times a week. When I retook the test 2 months later I came back and ran that two miles in under 19 minutes. I remember specifically because when they called out my time at the first mile and it was about 8 and a half minutes I could hardly believe it - the only time I had come close to that before was in Basic Training when I was 16. Now seriously if I could do that with the lifestyle I was leading, and I am short and stubby and NOT a runner in any way ANY HS kid should be able to do that with just a bit of training. They will be shocked how much time will drop off just running it a few times a week. She can do it!!!! Keep us posted.

I don’t think college coaches are allowed to require future players to do specific workouts. I’m not certain though. It’s just what we’ve been told and I’ve never looked it up. Last summer she received a “suggested” workout, but they were careful not to directly require anything.

It's really hard to find any good charts unless you are talking about professionals or serious amateurs. Most of what I can find is similar to what was quoted earlier. Also, I don't think most of these young ladies are sitting around all the time eating bon bons LOL. Not with the travel ball schedules I've seen!
Looks like the passing 2 mile time is 18:48 for the Army. She needs to turn that in a couple weeks from now.
