Below is an paragraph from an article on Missouri transfer to Oklahoma, Paige Lowary. Anyone know if she can play this year? I haven't seen the final verdict.

"Lowary will have two seasons of eligibility remaining in Norman. It was not immediately clear if she had been granted a release from Missouri and would be able to play right away in 2017, or if she will have to sit out a season per NCAA rules."
Finucane transferred after Lowary and got a release. Lowary is on the OU roster and articles indicate she's playing right away.

- OU Announces Addition of Lowary, Sparks - Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma softball head coach Patty Gasso has announced the addition of two student-athletes for the upcoming 2017 season in pitcher Paige Lowary and catcher Hannah Sparks.

Oklahoma also welcomes in seven newcomers, including a five-person freshman class and transfers Paige Lowary (Missouri) and Hannah Sparks (Northwest Florida State College).

Thank you SoCal! I thought or should I say think the same that she is playing right away as well. Nothing that I have seen makes me think any different other than I have not seen her get anytime in the fall schedule yet. Still a few games left and hoping she gets some time soon.

Interesting how Oklahoma has only 1 Sr. on their 2016-17 roster.
It wasn't due to a lot of attrition. They only signed one 2013 in 2012 and Lucas only played 1 season. Hatfield signed in Nov 2013 while at a JuCo and transferred mid-year.

If a student wanted to transfer and needs to get a release before talking to other schools, would'nt the other schools be out of money at that point? It would be so late in the year in most cases.

Money is always an issue, but there is a domino effect that occurs when a player transfers, quits softball, or becomes academically ineligible...with recruiting taking place at the 8th and 9th grade levels it is difficult for a coach to back fill a current roster spot with the current recruiting class. That makes high quality transfers very desirable to coaches who have openings. Plus it is only a one or two year commitment vs. four years.
