    Question Why This Rule?

I got called out for two outs as a base coach cause I sent two people home by touching them on the shoulder screaming GO GO GO.
This is my 5th game on the season and I been doing this all yr and now all of a sudden they are calling me on it.
Why are you not allowed to touch your players shoulder and tell them to go??

Blue judged it, as most would, as physically assisting runner. There for the runner is out.

    Why do you touch them?

Sucks to be you this morning. At least you know now.

I think it is a good rule, no need for the coach to touch a player on the field of play. Hopeully this was 10U or up. 8U and under I have carried players to bases.

Its for 12U. I touch the runner only a few of them cause they are never paying attention when the ball is in play drives me crazy! So now that we have been called out for it we are having a practice so it never happens again.

We are practicing. I am going bald, pretty sure it is because of softball.

Merely touching the runner is not an infraction. But, if in the umpires judgement you physically assisted the runner with a push, then they are out. It is generally best not to be touching runners while the ball is in play.

cause they are never paying attention
I agree with Comp. But I guess the umpire is saying that you are aiding the runner, by waking them up. If you hadn't touched them, they would just stand there.

I suggest liberal use of a taser instead.

In other words, you were *ASSISTING* the base runner. So, yes, they should be out.

The rule has been around forever. Too bad, too bad.

Dog training collars work much better (as long as you don't get the remote controllers mixed up)
