Several times I have reacted with a "GO!" so loud that it produces tears. Danged if you do, danged if you don't.
Never like to see a player cry, but I subbed in as an assistant coach on a good 18u team a month ago. I was internally excited to see that big girls cry too.

I used to draw a line about 4-5 feet, down third base line and tell them that on every pitch, they are to run to there.

I wish I had one for our first base COACH, since he tends to spend a lot of time watching and very little time coaching.

Coach you were wrong for touching the player, the umps made the correct call. What would be next, stopping a girl rounding 3rd by placing your hand on her to get her to stop? With that being said, the umpire maybe should have instructed you not to do that earlier in the season.

I like my base coaches to use the word....MOVE as opposed to go. Parents, Fans, Spectators love the word GO in sports and it can have many meanings to many people based on their individual situation. MOVE sounds so deep and can easily be made a loud roaring command for all to here through a crowd. Also, the girls stop reacting to GO so they listen to us and not other "off the field coaches". Sorry to hear the outs were given but it is a rule and a tough one to swallow as well. You will find a way to adapt. Good luck! Base running drills sound in order.

A little off topic of the OP but...

I never tell my girls to "go", "move" or anything else on the base paths. They have been taught to react and decide for themselves. If they have to wait to hear something from me then it is too late to "go" or "move".
