Matter of fact we had an instance of a parent yelling and belittling their kid in the outfield a few games. Finally, the whole team, without any influence from any adults went to that parent after a game and told him in no uncertain terms that they didn't want him to do that again. Worked out great!

You're comparing apples to oranges. The OP was about a problem player, not a problem parent. Your example was teammates sticking up for a player, not putting up with a poor teammate. It's nice to hear about kids sticking together.

Kinda like private pyle in Full Metal Jacket..... see what mass punishment did

I was going to use that example too.

Let's use something more current. How many current and past NFL players do you hear about having run ins with the law? The whole team isn't punished. Only the offender.

Punishing an entire team continually for one player's transgressions is the quickest way to divide a team of girls. Girls can be VERY vindictive and hold grudges for a VERY long time. I've only had one incident on my teams that needed to be addressed in all the years I've been coaching. I took the offender to the side and told her to quit the nonsense immediately or she was off of the team. No discussions, excuses or whining. Never had another problem with her after that.

I tell my teams they don't have to like everyone on the team or be friends with them. What I do demand in no uncertain terms is they WILL respect each other on and off the field. They are given no choice about that issue.
