How have you dealt with same-sex (intimate) relationships on your teams?

Allowed? Not allowed? Is it anybody's business?

Was hesitant to post the topic but I think it's very relevant to our game and implications of policies around same-sex situations can be explosive.

Ok on a serious note, Ive seen it on a couple of teams in our rec-ball program. Best thing to do is to let it be.

As long as they are not making out in front of others, then it should be fine. I would approve it and move on.......

Only difficult and touchy subject if you are making it so...it's none of your business, and if it isn't getting in the way of practices/games/etc. Let it go. If it is interrupting business as usual, then a private discussion with them would be necessary (basically - please leave it out of the dugout and off the field).

maksoftball pretty much hit it on the head. If a girl is overtly or overly aggressive with her teammates they will let her know to back off, especially the older levels. It usually works itself out. However, if a player comes to you or you hear from a parent about unwanted attention then it's time to take any necessary actions. Whether it's same sex or not the situation needs to be handled the same.

Only know of one instance where a girl was too aggressive on an 18U team. The team spoke to the coach and put it in no uncertain terms. If she was back on the team they would not be. The player was not asked back after tryouts. The downside... She was a great catcher.

I've been self-employed for many years now so I wouldn't know. . .

Do companies typically allow relationships (of any kind) at the workplace?

I think same thing applies. Keep it out of the workplace, and it's nobody's business. But if it interferes, then I would imagine warnings would be issued.

I'm with maksoftball. It's not the coach's business unless and until it interferes with the team's affairs...just as with any NON-intimate player relationships.
