Coach resigned a few weeks after tryouts, will not respond to calls or email about returning organizational equipment. My thoughts are to send certified letter and if still no response, go to local police department and see what can be done. Thoughts ?

This is one of those "it depends" situation....

You said "organizational equipment" so was it all just purchased or was it already existing and he was assigned as the coach?

If the equipment was purchased through the organization then I would file a police report for the stolen equipment. You have attempted to contact him and he has not responded (I assume you know that he is not out of the country or in the hospital, etc.). What would you do if a parent on the team took it all and wouldn't return it? I would handle the coach the same way.

If the "organization" is just a team and you paid fees to the coach and he purchased the equipment with the intent of using it for the team then you need let it go and move on. Our team just folded after the summer and the HC kept all of the equipment he purchased just before the summer started....its just the way it goes with some of this.
