Playing in 3 day tourney today. First game we won in a good game well played.
Second game losing 6-0 or so and a girl gets up and HC say to me "She is wearing Metal Cleats".
We are playing 14U and normally that's fine, but we are playing in a tournament sanctioned by an organization that for
some reason only allows 16 U and up wear them. We were forced to remove earlier in the summer. Our kids all are wearing
Rubber or plastic. I called time and asked the PU why they could wear them. He says that you can in 14U. I asked him to check
with TD and he said that we were right. Anyway the other coaches go nuts and start yelling all kinds of stuff at me. The ump made
them change which set them off more. The post game handshake they said one of our kid was hitting their kids too hard on the high five and
wouldn't shake our hands. I don't know who they said did it and as much as anything that upsets me. We go out of our way to try and promote
good sportsmanship and told our players that we won't allow that to happen.
Now they are letting teams wear metal tomorrow and Sunday which make our kids happy but it was the first time I remember where I just had nothing
left by the end of the game.
In the end I'm not really even mad at the other team for the way they responded. I really wish I had just let it go and not said anything. If they had asked
if they could keep wearing I would have said yes. Who I'm really mad at is the TD. I emailed him 2 times this season requesting us to be able to wear metal and was denied. If they are going to have a stupid rule like that then they need to enforce it or change it. We certainly didn't lose the game because of it but it gets old
when you are forced to follow a rule and the other teams aren't. My only positive is that I didn't get into a yelling match with the other team over it and kept my cool when some idiot fan tried to bait me. While I don't think their coached handled it very well I actually understand where they were coming from.
I think it's time to retire to the outfield.
