Keep in mind that she is an intern, and as best I can tell, they are committed to her through the preseason only. She's not the linebackers coach, per se. She's assisting with the linebackers during her time with the team.

Given that, and given her experience and education, I don't think the news is even controversial. It's newsworthy, but not controversial. I think it's a good move and is more likely to improve the team than the typical person who gets this job. If I were the one approving hires, I'd stamp this one 'yes' fairly quickly and applaud whoever thought of it for challenging stereotypes and see what this coach has to teach the team.

I am not qualified to coach football, but I can talk football better than 90% of the men I know. What usually happens while watching a game with a group is I will say something and someone either argues the point or I am ignored. Then a couple minutes later a guy who never played football will say something similar and everyone agrees. I let my husband pretend like he knows football better than I do, he did play as a high school freshman:/i was raised in a family with a deep love for the game. Some kids hunt with their dad or play video games, we watched Husker football games. In high school, I was drafted to be a waterboy:) Wildcats is one of my favorite movies. You do not need to be a male to be a football coach, nor do you need to have played at the highest level. You simply need to have a deep understanding of the game and you need to be able to pass along your knowledge in a way that others can understand. This is an internship, why not give a woman a shot?
