Since you are considering being a head coach, I assume that you have the ability to develop skills.

Your daughter is on a relatively low end B-level team.

Consider not coaching and investing your time into your child. See if a dedicated effort could improve her skill level.

As a plus, you’ll find that many of the issues that you are complaining about will dissipate when you advance to higher levels of ball.

Couple of things I thought I'd throw out there. We once showed up to practice and had no field. The county had double booked and the other team got there first. Nothing the coach could do.

Secondly, I know our coach sent out the tournament schedule as soon as he got it, but often that was as late as the day before. I think often the directors wait until the last minute because of teams dropping out or signing up last minute. On a couple of occasions we had the schedule several days in advance and it always ended up changing a day or two before.

Anyway, those 2 things stood out as possibly not the coach's fault (though he does sound guilty of daddy ball).

We use a school field for practice and he just didn't check to be sure it would be open. They had make up rec games scheduled for that day.
Often times for the tournament schedule, I have been able to go online and see it before it is sent out.
I have spoken to the head of the org about this and told him that most of the team won't be back if the HC remains. He suggested I talk to HC and ask if I can take over. As stated before, that won't go well.
FFS, thanks for the little jab. My daughter has played A ball and is being asked to play A ball this year. She got burnt out and quit a couple of years ago and doesn't want to play that again. As stated, she likes this team and wants to play here. I also coached on the A ball team she played on.

Isn't that one of the bigger responsibilities an org head has???

Durtyd26,

You and your DD are in a no-win situation.

If the HC stays, most of the team will disband and the team your DD likes to play on will no longer exist. She will be starting from scratch with a HC she doesn't like. Not good....

If you move your DD to another team she has the opportunity to make more friends on another team. It will give you more time to work with your DD. Endless possibilities for good things to happen. CON: The unknown. It's hard to leave the comfort of familiarity.

If you take the team you can hopefully keep the team intact minus the HC's DD. It takes lots of time to run any level team. And remember. Anything bad that happens is almost always your fault. Good things are expected.

You are at a junction in the road. You'll have to make a decision. That's the hardest part. The rest is easy. All you have to do is follow through. Sit down and give your DD the options and get her input on it as well. Sometimes kids will surprise you with well thought out logic for their decisions. Whatever you decide you need to do it soon. Tryout time is here now.

Good Luck

Thanks Sparky, DD and I have talked a lot about this. She wants me to take the team. We also have the opportunity to go to a pretty big organization nearby and her play and I AC on a very competitive A level team. She would do that but it is not what she really wants. I love coaching but that doesn't factor into the decision, it's what she wants. I would actually prefer the A team and me not coaching honestly. She plays several sports and doesn't want that kind of time commitment.
I am going to talk to the org head again and put it on him. If he won't make the move then I guess we will move on. She has several other good options where I know the coaches. But she wouldn't be able to bring her friends.
But you are right, no time to think this out.

As a league commish/org head, I would put this squarely into "internal team issue" realm until you've had the discussion with the HC, and would only become actively involved after the discussion did not lead to a resolution.

Trying to put this onto the head of the organization because you're unwilling/afraid to have a frank discussion with your HC is bull$hit.

Based on the OP's posts, it seems we're dealing with a TB org. IMO, when there are competitive tryouts and players are paying more than just registration fees for the privilege to play for an org/team, there's a big difference in the roles and goals of the head of a TB org v. a league commish. A TB org head's responsibilities absolutely include making sure that every team's coaching staff is in sync working collaboratively toward both team and organization goals. Surest way to fold an org is for the head to not be aware of and take corrective action in situations where a team's coaching staff is dysfunctional to the point of many players leaving. I would say that both ACs leaving (and other players reportedly leaving) is indicative of a serious problem; as we know that all DFP members are knowledgeable and objective, the problem obviously lies with the HC. The org head needs to take whatever action that is in the best interest of the org and all its teams.
