Ringor is out of my size until late July. I am thinking about the Mizuno Jawz or Erupt. One is a nine spike turf cleat, and the other is a more jagged surface without spikes. Any thoughts on these two for general coaching purposes.

Always go non-spikes. We make fun of people who wear actual 'cleats' as a coach and you can wear the soft jagged soles in a restaurant without everyone else doing so as well.

What about the jersey and matching belt? You think that's too much too? :)

Oh yeah. You DO NOT want to be one of these guys.

There is actually only ONE of these guys locally at the moment and we are merciless. Also he is a total A&&&&&&& and coaches a team where other teams will come watch just to support the other team.

You make of fun of coaches who wear cleats? Why?

Because you aren't going anywhere. You aren't running the bases or hitting or pitching. You are standing there - you don't need specialized shoes. Turf shoes are exactly what you need (not even mentioning how much more comfortable they are to coach in).

Every coach I know or have known who wears cleats to coach softball games (or baseball for that matter) is always a major issue on the field (or an issue waiting to happen) and one of the crazy coaches who thinks the game is all about him or that he needs to be 'in' the game.

The one I wrote about in the earlier post a couple of months ago - I wont be seeing him next season as he has was recently banned from local tournaments for 12 months and I heard there is also a restraining order out.

I have used a few different ones.

Mizuno Turfs were ok. Not as comfortable when on fields all day.

Ringors. True to size for men's. But not so durable. Stitching came loose opening up a hole in the turf after one summer season and it's not like I do anything overly athletic. Basically just stand near 1B/3B and walk back to car.

The ones I currently use now are the Nike turfs. These turned out to be my favorites. Most comfortable and so far most durable. They also look good imo. They are black and I just wipe off dust with a moist towel at end of day and they stay looking pretty new.

Pretty much identical results except I started with the nike and just bought some ringors. Nike were pretty good but hot! So I bought some grey mizuno. They have never been as comfortable and toe on the right side is starting to come unglued. I'm pretty hard on them. ( I also have a hole in my Nike shoes but it's something I did to them, not from normal wear. ) Ringors feel the most comfortable out of the box but I have not worn them to practice or games yet. Try outs are this weekend so maybe I'll break them in.

"You dont need specialized shoes" says the guy who says to get specialized turf shoes. The hypocrisy is perfect. I coach third and I coach my team in $8 cleats Eastons or Mizunos...At third, I move out of the way of balls going 80mph. I hustle down the line to hold up baserunners. I don't just "stand there" like you do in your comfy specialized turf shoes...looking like and feeling like a coach. Ive coach in flip flops. You probably have an issue with that too. I have one piece of advice for you that I live by and I teach my players...don't ever judge an opposing coach by their clothes, their hair, their hat, their shoes, or their voice. Judge them by their actions and how their players play the game.
