We had a tournament that had an uneven number of teams so we agreed to play a fourth game

Our second game was chosen randomly to not count for us. In the end we would up tied
with the team we beat in the second game for a seeding slot.

If the first tiebreaker is head to had and there were no other teams tied with us should that game
count towards head to head.

"Not count" leaves little to interpretation! Consider it a bonus that you got a free game in today! Good luck tomorrow, just beat everyone so its a moot point!

I appreciate the smart answer but I figured since teams often play an extra game I was asking how it should be handled. In this case it wasn't a big deal, but in others it could mean the difference between gold and silver bracket so just saying win the games tomorrow isn't always the right answer.

Have to agree with greenmonsters on this ... it was identified up front as a game that didn't count for you. Whatever the next tiebreaker was after the head to head should be used next.

Since both Team’s knew the game didn’t count neither probably played their best Team. If it doesn’t count it cannot sort of count latter. You can keep individual stats but that is about it.

It happens all the time in pool play if you have an uneven number of teams where one team plays an extra game and the game gets pulled for that team but it counts for the other team. Utrip counts it in head to head, I don't see what others do yet, but will look. I just figured that this has happened to teams before so I asked the question.

In the vast majority of cases you don't know which game is going to be pulled until after all 4 games.

This is the way it should be done if it is done as a blind draw at the end of the day. Otherwise teams may go with their 4th pitcher and subs in the 4th game as a way to get free playing time for them, which benefits the players on one team but skews the pool play results.

Play enough games and it all evens out. In the Big Picture, it's not a big deal to catch a bad break once or twice.

If the roster is full, I am all for taking the extra pool game and it's better for the integrity of the tournament to not know which one will be dropped.

I don't care about catching a break. It was to our benefit to lose the seed, but that doesn't matter. It should be spelled out if you are going to do it. I can't believe I can't
find the rules anywhere except the UTrip tournaments.

12. The following procedure will be used to determine seeding after pool play:
- If teams are tied with the same record in a division, head-to-head may or may not be used to break ties.
 Once a level of tie-breaker is used, we WILL NOT revert back to any steps of the tie-breaking procedure.
We will continue on down the list until all ties are broken.
 POOL PLAY SEEDINGS
1. Most wins
2. Head-to-head Games
3. Runs differential (+/- of 8 runs per game max)
4. Runs allowed per game
5. Runs Scored
6. Coin Flip
13. If a team is playing an extra pool game, the runs allowed and Win/Loss in that game will not be counted towards
your total. However, the results of the game (win/loss) will be used in head-to-head consideration if the
tie in pool play occurs. Team will draw a number to drop one game (win or loss).

I’m not disputing this has happened to you, but I’ve never seen a game count for only one team. That wouldn’t be the least bit fair for the other teams in the pool if one gets to play a team giving bench players an opportunity in a game that doesn’t count. The times we’ve played an extra game with a team from another pool it never counted in either’s standings and would not be used in tiebreakers.
