What should a coach do about a bad call in favor of his team?

Right Here For Now
I've had this scenario on several occasions on both sides. I did not offer my opinion to the umpires. Since I coach first base and I am usually a man of few words except to explain the running situations (quietly) to my baserunners, I am asked opinions quite often after the inning's over. I tell it how I saw it and usually it's along the lines of 'It was a good call blue.' Sometimes I will say she pulled her foot or whatever actually happened but I've found that they usually get it right and they appreciate the fact that a) I don't yell or scream about a bad call and b) it usually evens out during the game.

Unless an umpire is a homey, s/he is going to miss some calls for both sides. So, let the other team deal with the problem. It is rare one call wins or loses a game anyway.

Everyone always seems to remember the mistake by the umpire at 1B, but forgets about the SS doing an impression of an open door.

Imagine that your players hits a line drive down the line that is found but blue calls it fair. You tell the ump no, it was foul she has to hit again. I would love to stand next to the 6'4" 300lb dad that night at the pool after a few drinks when her BA drops under 450 and it's going to cost her that scholarship in 10 years.

I have done it in little league minors where a kid just didn't know the rule, but when I have professional umpires if they make a bad call in my favor it's a makeup for the 100's they missed on me :)

I think it entirely possible that if a coach did this, the umpire might take it personally. Let it go because at some point just the opposite will happen.

Thank you all for validating my long held belief that:

"Blue, we just want to get the call right"

in Coach speak translates to: "Blue, we just want to get the call in our favor!" :)

In a perfect world both sides would concede on bad calls. But nobody does. In general, I think the bad calls for and against even out for the most part over time, so I think it's best to just let it go whether it's for or against you. I think it's totally fine to ask for second opinions when there are 2 umps but in general arguing about calls is pointless and a waste of time and energy.
