It's 12u A ball, 2 of the area's strong teams. Sorry for not making that distinction.

The catcher was positioned legally.

My DD plays 12u A and cannot see her coaches asking her to swing at intentional walk pitches in a hope for a passed ball to move the runner at 2B to 3b to home. Instead the coaches would have her walk and have the next batter try to win the game for them with a single.

The "hope" is that she gets a pitch she can do something with. Absent that, there's a chance that the defense's strategy backfires a bit by a ball getting away from the catcher. Whether it's April or August, the only goal in that situation is to get the runner home safely from 3B. I'm still willing to be convinced that I'm wrong.

At older ages I think the ball would accidently slip out the pitchers hand and hit the batter. They can get their free base the easy way or the hard way.

intentional walk home run

the scenario....
We are down by two in the bottom of six, in the State championship game.

My slapper gets on, then a walk, then a double to tie the game.

my batter gets up, who already has a home run, and they call for the intentional walk.

I keep telling her to get ready, we work OPPO, so she knows.

this is the result.
