I posted this in the rules forum and didn't get any responses, so I'll try asking here

I want to know if I can move the pitcher (after an inning) to another position and then move her back to pitching in the same game. The only rule I can find is about this is Babe Ruth League 3.04 where it says:

"If the starting pitcher is removed from the game because of a second trip in the same inning, she may re-enter the game in any position with the exception of pitcher."

First, we only have 10 players and are allowed to play 10 so the pitcher will never be removed from the game, only moved to another position.

If I move her because of 2 trips to the mound, can she no longer pitch in that game?

If I move her on the first trip to the mound, can she pitch again in that game?

If I move her at the beginning of the next inning, cand she pitch again in that game?

Thanks,
Kenny

Pitchers can re-enter the game to pitch, and if she stays in the game she can come back to the circle. If it is in the same inning the number of warm-up pitches she gets may be effected and I think she can only re-enter once. Comp could provide you an official response.

For ASA they bury this rule under warm-up pitches, go figure. As long as a pitch remains in the game they can go back and for pitching as often as you would like. They only get warm-up pitches once per inning.

For ASA after the 3rd defensive conference, of the game they do not care about number per inning or that you talk to the P, that pitcher is done pitching for the day.

We're playing Babe Ruth and I couldn't find anything in the rules. It's 10U and I want to let several try pitching, but I wanted to be sure I could someone back in that can get the ball to the plate. Thanks.

Look under defensive conference and warm-up pitches and see if there is anything there. Babe Ruth has more of a baseball spin then other organizations, someone will know for sure.

We play Babe Ruth for rec. You can change out as much as you like. Remember though, one pitch counts as an inning pitched. For tournament you are allowed 6 innings in 2 games. Our rec has some additional rules for 10u that differ from main Babe Ruth, so I am not sure what the limit is for non-tournament.

I have no clue about Babe Ruth rules, but in any other rule set the pitcher can be moved to another position on the field and return to pitch any time in the game, including in the same inning. Unless she has been removed because of excessive defensive conferences, then she is done pitching for the game. Now, the rules do differ some from one to the other on how many times she can be moved around. ASA there is no limits, pitcher can be moved back and forth between defensive positions as many times as you like, but, if she is removed and returned to pitch in same inning she gets no warm up pitches when she returns. In NFHS, the pitcher may only be removed and returned to pitch once per inning, and gets not warm up pitches if she returns in same inning. I would have to look up USSSA, but it is generally the same as NFHS on most other rules.

Many years ago when my DD's were just starting to play ball they were in a Babe Ruth league. We were at a regional level tournament. During an older level game a coach made a pitching swap between innings back to the starting pitcher of the game. The other coach protested. I was sitting with the TD while he was reading through the rule book and asked him what the problem was. He explained the situation and said there was nothing in the rule that said a coach was allowed to make that change. I told him there was nothing in the rule book that forbid a team from making the change. He went with that ruling. A few weeks later an email came from the Babe Ruth main office clarifying the rules allowing the change to be made. So unless they've changed their minds I would think you're OK to make the swap between innings so long as the pitcher did not leave the game.

I was hoping someone would know the answers to the OP. The balk thread had me looking for balk in the Babe Ruth rules, they seem different than the other rule sets.

Rule 8.12 says the Coach can visit the pitcher once per inning, if they visit them a second time the P cannot pitch again that game.

So I think the coach can visit the same P 7 times a game without replacing them.

I was disappointed I couldn’t find balk in their rules.
