correcting bad throwing form

Im an AC for our local HS team and have come across a common issue with the throwing mechanics of several of our players. Basically what they are doing is bringing the ball from the glove straight back getting the elbow to shoulder height with hand and fingers up (like the L drill) and then just pushing the ball. Ive tried to get them to take the ball down and back and up in one motion but they all seem to pause or hitch at the top and still end up pushing the ball vs whipping it. Any ideas?

Thanks

That said, and I teach Wasserman also, bringing the ball down wastes time. The ball should come straight to the ear (infield) and then HLT takes over. Kobata videos cover this.

I see this at the 12U and 14U level and don't understand why coaches fail to reteach proper mechanics. I guess saying the word "proper" today is against PC and PC police will soon storm in :D

I agree.. It's like a sling shot style. Our top pitcher does this. Every time she fields a ball and throws to first you hear a collective gasp from our fans :D
