LL draft- option for dd of manager?

"If an option is submitted in writing for the son and/or daughter of a manager or coach, such candidate must be drafted in or before the following round." (then there's the age matrix).

Is this just a piece of paper that says, "I am submitting my option to draft my daughter in or before round #." and then signed by me and handed in to the player agent 48 hours ahead of time?

Or is there an actual form? Nothing else needs to be included?

And then no matter if player agent or VP decide that pitchers have to be selected in round1 (my dd is a pitcher)- no rule that they decide on would override the option that I submit, correct?

thanks in advance.

Local leagues has a lot of flexibility with setting up Teams, I think you are quoting your local rules.

Maybe provide a link to the rules and us non-lawyers can provide you advice.

I know many leagues screw this up, but it stands to reason that if "#1" pitchers are selected in the 1st round, then you would have to take your DD off the board then, assuming she's a #1. If they're doing actual pitchers in the 1st 2 rounds, same thing should apply.

Even if the rules do not explicitly say so, in a rec league, no team should be allowed to hoard all the premium pitchers unless they are siblings.

I'm speaking from the experience of having "protected" 2 pitchers in a draft meaning that I should not have had a 1st- or 2nd-round pick, but the rules weren't set up that way. (I took a SS with my 1st pick and then had to take the remaining P in the 2nd round because of what was happening in the room. I laugh about it all now, but rarely pitched DD that season because it would not have been fair. Her mother was not at all pleased with me and still has not forgiven me for rotating her between 1B, 3B, OF, and C.)

If there are x teams and your DD is one of the x best pitchers you should pick her in the first round.

In other words you don't get a free pitcher in round 3 just because she is your daughter.

I am pretty sure this is all open to local interpretation but in LL it makes sense that you should try and let every team have at least one quality pitcher no matter what...the league will regret it if they don't enforce this...trust me

IMO there is not a good answer to your Issue.

We moved to an auction draft which has its own issues but a lot of fun. The board assigns a point value to a coach’s player that they can pay or not. If they do not the first bid is always the assigned value so they end up paying more for their kid to play on their team.

(90% of the time the coach’s kid is really good and costs them a lot of points)

Thanks. There was a forum where they answered my questions. I'll post the page 63 from the Little League Operating Manual in case anyone else wants to see the option on Sons/Daughters of Managers.

This.... this sounds interesting! Could you possibly elaborate on how this works? I'm always looking for ways to make improvements.

Basically you get 2000 points for every open slot on your Team, points carry over from the previous year. The coaches are randomly selected for a draft order. When it is the coaches turn they put a player’s name out there for everyone to bid on.

To try and avoid the Issue of a coach getting an AC of the best player in draft the board assigns a point value to the player that they can accept or not. If they do not the player is bid on by everyone.

It seems to work out OK.

If you have 2 players from the same family you are bidding on both of them, not individually.

If you already have a sibling on your Team for a player coming into the league, board assigns a point value and you argue for and little while and just take her.
