Yeah don't want to be in an 0-2 count but I thought it was referring to 2 strikes no matter the count.

That is what I meant...any count with 2 strikes...

And I heard (I think) the Georgia coach say something very similar to Ken - "if you don't want to see strike 3, don't get to strike 2"...

It's going to happen of course but learning to battle and foul off pitches is an important skill to know.

BTW, if your DD hits better while choking up on the bat and moving closer to the plate, then maybe she needs a new bat and new approach before she gets to 0-2.

Science of hitting

From Ted Williams. .." You have to think in terms of making everything quicker. How do you do that? You choke up a little bit...."
"
When you’ve shortened up and quickened up, you can wait longer, you get fooled less, you become more consistent getting wood on the ball. Psychologically, becoming a good two-strike hitter inspires confidence. A batter knows he can still hit with authority."

Sorry but this is a hitting fallacy that batters can just pick and chose their pitches and foul off the ones that don't like. That is a dangerous game to play as a hitter and I don't think anyone is that good that they can consistently foul off pitch after pitch on purpose until they see a pitch they like and then put it in play. Not sure where you guys come up with this nonsense? If you are that good a hitter than drive the ball to the outfield instead of fouling it off.....

nonsense

Even if it is nonsense... it's easy to find:)
Wikipedia:
foul off
Purposely batting a pitch foul with two strikes in order to keep the at-bat going, in part to tire the pitcher and in part to get another, different pitch that might be easier to hit. Luke Appling was said to be the king of "fouling them off." Such a hitter might also be said to be battling or working the pitcher.

DD does do the "protect" swing at 2 strikes. DD does not strike out that much and gets allot of 2-strike hits up the middle.

I promote this.

The only problem I have is with the "purposely" trying to foul it off. Just because a batter has had a quality at bat and has fouled off several pitches does not necessarily mean they were purposefully fouling the pitch off until they got "their" pitch to hit. I hope you can understand the difference?

I understand what you mean. .. It's not necessarily "their pitch"... Just a "better pitch."
At least on DD'S last team, they practiced fouling off pitches. Especially ones tight inside because that particular head coach made them crowd the plate.

Not here.
My DD must stink....I have never spoke/taught/would even know how about to teach/nor want her/try/good enough to 'foul off pitches' until she gets 'her' pitch. On every swing DD swings to hit the ball. DD isn't good enough to 'foul pitches off' on purpose.:(
