Breaking in to coaching school ball

So the AD called me today to ask if HR had called (they haven't), and then he told me that the original HC may have a work schedule issue, and would I want the job. I don't wish misfortune on anyone, but I'm kinda jazzed about the potential opportunity.

That is cool. Might want to call HR. Those background checks can take a while to come back and some districts won't let you do anything with the kids (rightly) until they are back clean.

On the plus side, I already have the FBI background check on file with the state board of education due to my needing one to teach motorcycle safety classes at certain campuses. I should just have to pay for the pupil interaction permit. Should.

OK, so now I'm the HC. Promoted before I even get to start. Stress levels are slightly elevated. I need a conditioning routine for the girls...

1st practice down. Conditioning. I think the 8th grade coach ran them too hard, we'll have to talk about that. Pretty small group so far.

The game of softball especially at the MS/HS level has very minimal requirements for physical conditioning and IMO time is best spent learning the game and on activities that will make the athlete and team successful. I wish coaches spent as much time in the early years on things like teaching a kid to get a bunt down as they do on "conditioning".

I'm 100% with you. I'm checking with our AD on our contact rules, I'm not sure if we can be "coaching" yet (though we did throw tonight - I gave them homework to bring water bottles next practice).
