We went to a hitting lesson last night and DD's coach gave her homework and I really liked the idea. She has to make a video on hitting as if she were the instructor. He has started this with his pitchers also and said it has helped immensely. He got the idea from a book he is reading and it has helped by seeing and hearing what the students actually think they are doing or supposed to be doing. He has found out that a lot of times they actually misunderstand and this is a great way to "clear things up."
DD is excited to do it. It will be really short, but it should be a good experience. Who knows, maybe can make an E-book for sale;)

DD pitches and if I am asked to help younger players I call for my DD and find something else to do. I do not know if they realize they are helping my DD as much if not more than their player.

This is a great idea -

My DD volunteers with the local 10U rec teams to help with pitching - Most of the coaches at that age know nothing about pitching and are thankful for the help. She say's it does makes her think more about her own mechanics, especially trying to instruct a left hander.

She want's to go in to teaching so it's a definite win/win for her.

I love this, when my DD was in high school, I decided to go back and coach a 10u team from my local league. She helped out as my assistant coach--which also went on her volunteer list for college admissions. When you are coaching someone and teaching them you pay a lot more attention to detail than when you are doing it yourself.
She really developed more of a love for the sport when she did this and improved her leadership abilities, and I think paid a little more attention to the little things from then on.

Also, it makes a player more "coachable".

You'll be amazed how many things you've told her comes out during the video. They do actually listen.

I really like the video idea! Looking forward to giving this a try!

I routinely ask earlier session kids to hang out and to teach newer kids. Its a great experiece for both.

This is a great exercise. The first time I had to train people I went from proficient to expert in about a month after trying to explain it to others. Teaching is the best way to really learn something. Or more accurately, teaching forces you to truly understand something you think you already know.
