As part two of my experiment in learning how to hit, I took some live BP today. I'd say my success was mixed at best. I'm not happy with how my swing kept trying to slide back to its old, terrible style. I did get a few on the barrel and boy those felt good.

OK - two big observations. 1. Hitting the ball off the hands hurts so much I thought I had broken my hand. DH said that it's a normal part of learning how to hit live. I reacted by letting loose some choice words. So, coaches and parents, please be patient with DD when she gets mad about taking it off the hands (or when 10 or 12U DD starts crying). IT HURTS!!! 2. Getting hit with a pitch hurts. A lot. It is a normal, reflexive reaction to try to get out of the way. So when parents in the stands yell out, "wear it!" when they see DD jump out of the way of a pitch - I'll just say I'd like to see them take a 60 mph pitch in the hip.

Overall I'm having a lot of fun, and I'm gaining a lot more understanding of DD and how hard she's worked over the years :)

Ok, so who's in the doghouse? I'm betting DH just couldn't resist the temptation - probably just wanted to brush you back, though, not actually hit you. Then again, maybe not!

Ha ha! No way would I ever post a video - in fact one of the baseball coaches happened by yesterday and I was quick to take off my batting helmet and introduce myself lest he think our high school was turning out some very strange, very terrible hitters.

Actually the one in the sort-of dog house is DD - she was throwing full speed from behind a screen 30 feet away. I can't exactly blame her though. The screen was already set up at 30 feet for DH's pitches and I thought it might be "fun" to see one of DD's full speed pitches. Kind of like the time I thought it would be "fun" to hop aboard my friend's two year old thoroughbred filly who was not only green but had just flunked out of her racing career by crashing through a fence at the track :)
