I've been kicking around the idea of buying a rev fire. I need to know some details of it before hand.
First, does it require a full distance pitch (43')?
Secondly, can it be thrown into a net and not a mitt?
Thanks, James

- It is set to a distance, so there are other distances than 43' (35, 40, 46, 60 from memory). Distance sets up the math function for reporting speed.

- You can throw it into a net, however it wont read unless there is a major stop event, so you need a solid net - not a sock type net. And even then it may not read all the time. The spin/speed reading is triggered by the sudden stop/catching event. If you throwing into a net for pitching it needs to be set at the distance you chose when starting the receiving unit otherwise readings will be totally off.

As Marriad mentions, a RevFire uses distance and time to calculate speed, so having a catcher set up in the proper location is critical for proper readings. Not sure if it will work with a net. It will measure the average speed, not the top speed of the pitch. It is a great tool for measuring spin and if used consistently it can show improvements in velocity, but if you are looking for a top speed reading use a radar gun.
