As a coach, what is the lowest temp I should be recommending to my girls to use their composite bats? We have a tournament this weekend and the high on Saturday is calling for 48 degrees.

As a coach I'd tell the parent's to check with the manufacturer of the bat. If one breaks I don't want a parent saying "But you told me..."

The temperature I've always seen on the label that comes with the composite bats is 60 degrees. However, that's really not realistic in our part of the country--you'd be unable to use the bat about half of the year. We had two composite bats break the weekend after we had used them during an evening game where the temperatures had dipped down into the lower 40s, I believe. A high of 48 would make me very nervous.

Dude! Come play down here. It's going to be 97 on Saturday.

It is suppose to be 41 Saturday morning here in north GA.

I had always heard that the balls being cold and becoming more dense is the biggest problem with the bats. I would take a warmer and keep the balls in it all night and between innings and switch them out, never had a bat to break on my team.

I may be wrong, but I was always under the impression that the temperature issue isn't as much how it effects the bat, but how it effects the ball. As the temps go south the ball core becomes harder and that is what causes the problem with cracking bats. The harder ball would obviously do more damage, kinda like hitting a big rock. I say this because we have parents in this area that insist that if the keep the bat "warm" DD can use it in her at bat then put it back in the (insert method of keeping bat warm here).

37 degrees at gametime Sat morning :*(

Ive seen bats break but never in the cold weather. Its makes logical sense just never seen it.

And Ive never seen a legit bat manufacturer deny a legit bat return regardless of the reason it broke.

If its under warranty I use it. I paid for a tool and a service. Minus a quality defect Ive never needed the service and have always used the tool in all conditions.

I agree with KCPRK, just use it.

I have seen more bats break in warm then in cold weather. We play Snowball tournaments here and I have yet to see a bat break.

I would love to see some bat manufactures return data by month and location.
