I am looking for a little guidance in regard to payment of travel ball coaches. What would a normal rate be? We currently cover hotel rooms and food only. This is a 12U team being coached by a younger ex colleg player. Any info appreciated.

Can you see what and if the soccer coaches are being paid?

When I get paid to coach (meaning some one was sick) I charge what I would make during a lesson. $25.00 It actually should be twice that, but I don't charge, a lot.

This seems to vary for team to team here in Michigan. Non-parent coaches typically have their hotel/gas expenses covered at the very least. Some of the higher level teams pay coaches a salary in addition to the expenses. I have heard this vary from $2,500 all the way up to $10,000 or higher in some of the Elite level clubs where the coaches are also spending time promoting their players to college coaches.

As a coach I'll add that it seems like I learn something from every player.... sometimes I learn a more effective way to get a point across, or what not to say again,

School pays me $500 for spring softball (starts in January practicing and ends first week of May) and at away games I get a free meal where ever the team stops.
Travel Ball pays my hotel and mileage on vehicle to tournaments. Sometimes I get a meal in there if our club president calls for coaches dinner while on the road. I do how ever get a budget of money for equipment that I get to use as I please. So my daughter and school ball team gets to use it while TB team is not.

We're paying $40 a month for our head coach. He is a successful varsity HS coach, the players (10u) get to use the HS field for practice and the indoor hitting facility. Not bad so far, the players are learning alot and treats them pretty well. Last season it was $80 for a asst college coach for a shorten fall season with no facilities.

The average rate for paid coaches in my area is in the area of $4,000 HC and $1,250 AC for the year. Out of town travel expenses were paid, hotel, mileage, air fare, and a daily meal per diem. No mileage or meals for local tournaments. No mileage for practices. Get a 1099 at the end of the year so actual total is closer to $3,200 after the taxman takes his bite.

That was for 3 practices a week all year; fall, spring and summer tournaments and all the other time spent off the field running the team. Works out to be about $5 an hour, maybe. Not to mention lost work time or vacation time. Definitely not getting rich doing it.
