So I am our town's commissioner for in house softball. I've been looking for ideas to help the learning process with our youngest levels and one idea that was brought up was changing the softball used at 8U to ease the transition to 10U.

We currently use the Incrediballs which honestly bounce way too much and turn routine plays into a mess. This also hurts the girls moving up who are taught the right groundball fundamentals as they expect every to bounce up at some point. A local town uses the RIF 10's and my team played out there a few years ago for fall ball. They are harder yes, but not as hard as the Dream Seams we use at 10U but also would help the girls learn on the right ball.

Anyone have an opinion on this?

Our league uses RIF balls for 8U (10") and 10U (11"). This seems pretty consistent with other ASA leagues in our area. From my observation, the transition from RIF to Dream Seam (or equivalent) is not a significant adjustment as far as ball bouncing dynamics.

Our rec league uses incradiball for 8U and RIF for 10U. I wish the increadiball would go away. The RIF seems like a good enough compromise from the hard tournament balls for rec leagues.

We are probably the exception, in that we use the incrediball for 6U and in 8U use the dream seam "normal" ball.

Once an umpire insisted we use the incrediball in an 8U game and it really fouled up our pitcher, but we had quite a few triples and home runs.

We do exactly what you did(normal ball), also use 11” balls for 8U.

I think the 10” RIF ball would be OK for 8U, I do not think I would like the Incrediball though.
