Our league uses RIF balls for 8U (10") and 10U (11"). This seems pretty consistent with other ASA leagues in our area. From my observation, the transition from RIF to Dream Seam (or equivalent) is not a significant adjustment as far as ball bouncing dynamics.

Yep same here for 8U - its the 10 inch RIF 1 DOT (the one with the blue dot thats soft).... the 10U is 11inch but I think its a little harder (not as hard as the dreamseam but not as squishy as the RIF 1 DOT.. sorry cant remember exact ball type for 10U)

We switched this year for our Pee Wee league 5-6-7 to the RIF-10 girls seemed to really like it compared to the incrediball

We use 11" regular softballs for all ages in our league except for 6U T-ball. We found there were more issues with the RIF balls bouncing crazily than there were with regular softballs. Let's be honest...8U players are not "crushing" the ball anyway.

The change to the hard ball will be a tough battle for us. Parents worry about it going into 10U - the 8U parents will flip.

I was hoping for a 'softer' transition with the RIF balls in 8U.

Not a battle I would fight, the RIF ball is fine.

We had a player on our 8U Team that quit before the 1st game. Maybe if we used the softer ball she would have been more comfortable and still playing. Who knows.

Our Rec uses the same 11" ball for all 6U-10U. Mostly dream seams unless they get a good deal on something :)

Choice of ball size and type shouldnt be based on "getting a good deal on something" ... 11 inch for 6U and I would argue most 8U girls makes for a hard time grabbing the ball and properly controlling the throws... does make for some stud hitters in 6U/8U with the dreamseams :)... I would argue there is no need for dreamseam hardness and hot off the bat for 6U

I'm with you. An 11" ball is going to be darn near impossible for 6U paws to hold at all, which makes the game all that more difficult to learn.

Eric- what 10" ball do you use for 6u?

All the leagues I'm aware of in Nor Cal ASA use the 11" ball for 8u, but that might be changing now that I've heard that Region 14 is defining rules for 8u Championship play.
